Another great thing about this package that it doesn't replace system files. It installs the old classic mspaint.exe alongside the inbox one. This way, you can use them simultaneously. It is easy to launch them both from the Start menu or with Search. Type "paint" and pick the one you need, or run them all.

It is easy to remove the old classic paint from Windows 11 by opening Settings (Win + I). There, go to Apps > Installed apps, find Classic Paint, and click on the three dot menu button. From that menu, select Uninstall, and confirm your intention.

Starting with Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, Microsoft is ditching the good old Paint app and replacing it with a new Modern app called "Paint 3D". Classic Paint's new home will be the Windows Store, but I am afraid it won't stay there forever. Many people are not happy with this change because the old mspaint.exe loaded faster, was more usable for mouse and keyboard users and allowed quickly pasting images from the clipboard, cropping them and saving them. If you would like to get the classic Paint app back in Windows 10, it is possible. In this article, we will see how to restore Classic Paint back in Windows 10.

As of this writing, the most recent Windows 10 "Fall Creators Update" version is build 16241. While it still comes with the files required for classic Paint to work, it already "promotes" the modern app. It is expected to be removed from the OS very soon. Once this happens, here is what you should do.

You are done. The Paint app will be revived completely, e.g. you will be able to launch it as "mspaint.exe" from the Run dialog or from the taskbar's search box or from Cortana. It will have the same user interface language as your operating system.

When I try to install it says it has no permission for the windows system folder. I click ignore and it seems to work anyway. It would be great if edit with> paint showed up in the context menu though like others have said.

Thank you Ramesh. I have been suffering and looking for months for a solution and your blog was the only place I could find the solution. Everywhere I went I ended up getting recommendations for Winaero and their classic paint version. It would run properly and I had to reinstall their classic pain over and over again in order to use it. THANK YOU.

Windows 11 has replaced the older and classic Windows Paint app with the newer Paint which is not familiar and quite cumbersome to use especially for frequent users of the older Windows Paint software.

The arrival of Microsoft's classic image editor on the Microsoft Store was first spotted by Aggiornamenti Lumia. Paint coming to the store means that the app will now be available as a UWP application and will be more secure compared to an app outside the store, thanks to sandboxing and other security features.

They have heard your plead all the way to Washington. As part of the creator's update to Windows 10, Microsoft has introduced Paint 3D, which is a modern Windows app. As opposed to the old classic Paint "program". The classic Paint is now deprecated and may be removed in future updates of Windows 10.

Note that there is also an option to "save" or to "save as". You can save the file this way too. The only difference being that it also offers the option to save your work as a project so you can come back to it later, which is something that the classic Paint does not support. In the old Paint, once you have saved the file and closed the program, you can no longer step back and undo your changes. Paint 3D supports layers, so you can use that to easily make adjustments later.

Solved this by copying mspaint.exe to xppaint.exe on an xp computer. Then copied xppaint to a Windows 7 computer. When transparency is required, use xppaint. Many features in Win 7's Paint are better, but not this one.

Starting in Windows 8, the OS comes without the classic Windows 7 games. They are no longer included with Windows 11, Windows 10 and Windows 8.1. Here is a Windows 7 Games package which solves this issue. This Windows 7 Games package is compatible with all builds of Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8.1 and Windows 8.

Microsoft has removed the classic calculator app starting in Windows 10 and replaced it with a new UWP app that receives updates from the Store. Many people aren't happy with this change. The classic app loaded faster, and was more useful for mouse and keyboard users. Here you can get the classic calculator back in Windows 11 and Windows 10.

Starting in Windows 10 Anniversary Update, Microsoft replaced the classic desktop Sticky Notes app with a Universal app. For many users, the classic Desktop app is the more preferable option. It works faster, starts faster and has no Cortana integration.

Many prefer the good old classic Sticky Notes app because it consumes notably less system resources. It starts immediately and works much faster. The performance difference is especially visible on less powerful hardware like Atom and Celeron CPUs. The notes themselves are also a bit smaller, so users like their compact appearance more.

If you are not happy with the changes Windows 11 22H2 brought, here is the classic Windows 10-like task manager for you. It is built on files from Windows 11 21H2, the last version of Windows 11 that contains the classic task manager. It will be installed side-by-side, and won't replace a single system file. Install it, and press Ctrl + Shift + Esc - voila, you now have the classic app!

Windows 10 and Windows 8 assume that you use Task Manager for managing your startup apps. If you prefer to use the good old msconfig.exe tool for that, you must be aware that this feature is no longer included in Windows 10 and Windows 8. Here you can get classic msconfig.exe back in Windows 10 and Windows 8 that still includes the "Statup" option.

The installer inlcudes the classic msconfig.exe app with the startup tab in the msconfig UI so you will be able to manage your startup apps. It handles the "msconfig" command in the Run dialog. Also, it doesn't replace system files, instead it adds a new file, %windir%\system32\msconfig1.exe.

The classic Paint (mspaint) app taken from Windows 10 Build 14393. You can install it on Windows 11 and enjoy the faster and more usable image editor than the built-in one. Another good thing is that this Paint app doesn't include the "Paint 3D" button and Store promotion.

You will be able to launch it as "mspaint.exe" from the Run dialog or from the taskbar's search box or from the Start menu. No system files will be replaced. It will be installed alongside the default built-in Paint app.

Finally, you can uninstall it like any other app. Head up over Settings > Apps > Installed apps, find Classic Paint, and uninstall it. This will revert all the changes to their defaults, and your default mspaint app will be the inbox app.

Microsoft plans to remove the classic Windows Paint app from Windows 10 this fall, as part of a large chunk of features the company announced it would deprecate or remove with the release of the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, set to be launched somewhere in October or November.

Microsoft launched Paint 3D in April this year with the release of the Creators Update. The app provides a hybrid between a classic painting app and a 3D editing software, albeit only the basic 3D editing features are supported.

NOTE: If you are using a different language edition of Windows, replace the mspaint.exe.MUI file in your local language folder as well. For example, Czech locale users will need to replace mspaint.exe.MUI file in cs-CZ folder along with en-US folder.

Starting with Creators Update for Windows 10, Microsoft plans to replace the classic Paint program with the new Paint 3D app. In the early builds of Creators Update, when you try to launch the classic Paint program via search or Start menu, Windows 10 launches the new Paint 3D app instead of classic Paint.

While the new Paint 3D offers much more than the classic Paint program, many users still prefer to use the classic Paint for basic jobs. If you also love the classic Paint program and want to get it back in Windows 10, please follow given below directions to enable the classic Paint program in Windows 10.

When we got the first computer on our hands, as a kid, we were intrigued with MS paint. It was the one application that made us aware that digitally we could unleash our creativity. All of us, especially the 90s kids were a bit disheartened when we learned that Microsoft will stop supporting MS paint very soon, in order to promote Paint 3D, that comes with windows 10. Although Paint is still available in Windows, eventually Microsoft plans to remove it permanently and only keep it as a Windows store product for users who still wants to use MS Paint.

Those of us who still want to make MS Paint a part of their life, the next best thing is in store. Behold MS Paint online. It is an easy to use web-based application, the look and feel of which is exactly like MS Paint. Not only that, the user interface of MS Paint online resembles the version of MS Paint used in older versions of windows. With the color pallet located at the bottom and classical sidebar icons, the app promises you the old Windows Classic experience. I personally checked out the tool and found it working properly in all major browsers without any cross-browser compatibility issues.
