Hmph… it came as no great surprise to read that Fyvie shares the same agent that Jack Grimmer had.
I have been very disappointed to hear that Fyvie seems to view his immediate future is best served away from the club. In fact, this whole story is really getting under my skin, and is quite worrying, for a few of reasons:
1] It is a worrying trend for clubs that rely on the development of youth players for either forming the basis of their team or for selling on for large transfer fees. We may not have completed the development of Fyvie, but not every youngster will make it even this far. In order to recoup the development outlay, a club relies on any sell-on fee to cover the development of more than just the player being sold. This is why it is very disheartening to see the likes of Grimmer (and probably Fyvie) disappear before the club has a chance to recoup the funds that would help continue to finance youth development.
2] He is a local lad, and so it seems more galling that he would consider leaving so young with little care for the potential cost-impact to the club. The club has also only had one season out of him, having supported his rehabilitation for the other season.
3] Craig Brown has stated that the apparent surplus of midfielders is a sensible precaution due to the current injuries and the likely loss of Arni and Fyvie. However he also stated he needs to prepare for the loss of Jack. I don’t think there was any need for that, and simply looks like he is announcing his availability. I am realistic, and fully expected Fyvie and Jack to pursue a career at a larger club at some stage in their career, hopefully bringing in a sizeable transfer fee as well as serving AFC for a few more years. Surely this would be the way to do business and mentioning the chances that Jack will be off within a year or so (I am simply judging this by the length of contracts offered to and the respective ages of both Rae and Hughes).
I was generally happy with the Window (Ochachi excites me), but this Fyvie/Jack story has really damped my spirits.

That is a fair point. However, first team action is also unlikely to be on the cards should he find a move to a “big” club in England.
However, I don’t mind him moving, provided there is fair compensation. A small percentage of a club’s youth players will make it to the top, and so you want to recoup significant sums on those that do make it in order to ensure the Academy pays for itself – you’ll never finance an Academy by simply selling on players for the cost of only their development. Sadly, I can’t see this happening in Fyvie’s case.
