By saying they shoud merge and could then attract a crowd of 17,000.

Seems Jocky Scott isn't happy with these suggestions.

I can't find any quotes around the Irish clubs reference - I know he wrote in the Sunday Herald a couple of weeks ago about the SPL sinking to the level of the Irish League and mentioned the Dundee clubs merging in the same article, but nothing about Irish clubs in the SPL?

The quote regarding Irish teams is an article that is not online.

His quote was:

“I don’t see why it isn’t feasible to ask teams from Northern Ireland and the Republic to join our setup. It would appeal to broadcasters. The SPL should be 14 or 16 teams. Promoting more sides from the First Division wouldn’t do any good, we have to set the bar higher.”

I completely disagree with this, as I do with the notion of the Old Firm leaving for the premiership.  Any such move should be justified around logistical reasons (i.e. Berwick in the SFA, NZ’s only professional team playing in the Australian A-league).  Inviting Irish (or any other) teams to the SPL, simply to raise its profile, is questionable.  Attracting or producing better players is a better solution.

It’s a SCOTTISH league for fox sake.
