...that is why Pittodrie is like a ghost town.

Jesus wept.

Plans, Stewart...got any? No, not blueprints for the new stadium.

Jesus wept indeed.

Wonder how long before we're hounding out the management team
now......

Another lower league team to add to a growing list of teams we've gone out to. Poor results under a catalogue of managers with a host of different players. One common factor in place - a failing chairman.

There's a culture of failure at the club that's been in place for the better of 10 years. We've been turned into a bottom half of the league club who look like they have the potential to be relegated. Attendances are falling and are unlikely to recover this season at least. Combined 11,000 for Killie and East Fife? Pathetic. Senior management at AFC continues to fail. Massive shakeup needed there. Cosmetic change of changing manager no longer enough.

What's the point? They're not the problem.

Of course they are a problem.  Milne is to blame for so so much and for the state of the club as a whole now but the manager knew his budget, made massive mess of it, then sent his team out against part time side bottom of division 2 East Fife who had half their team working their full time jobs during day (radio reported a couple of players drove up as could only get finished at 3.30 so not able to travel with team).  Saying they are not a problem is bonkers.

Agreed. Signing midfielders rather than full backs was a mistake.

Failing to pick up the likes of Sandaza – a proven SPL striker – was daft too.

This was a team we beat 6-0 recently so if ever there was a banana skin this was it. Back then they hadn’t played for six weeks. Recently their league form has been crap but they did knock out a team higher in the SPL than us.

The players weren’t in place or ready for it.

We’ve mis-allocated the available budget and will now have to live with the consequences for the rest of the season. Looking forward to seeing players out of position for the rest of the campaign...

Defensive fullbacks and wide MF were dire needs yet we loaded up on CM leaving us will CM or DCs at fullback again. Milne continues to fail, but we got the summer transfers so wrong. Chalali and Fallon seem panic signings - too late now to get what we really needed.

Only thing now is attendances will be so low that only a hardcore will remain and players won't get too much flak for ever mistake.

That's a very common sentiment, I'm sure.

Here's what I don't get: McGhee was very successful at Motherwell. He flopped here. Brown was very successful at Motherwell - he's struggling here.

What is the common factor? I have long been of the opinion that there was something rotten in the state of Pittodrie. I don't know what it is, but it causes good players and managers to become crap.

Can we really be in the position of looking back at Jimmy Calderwood's team wistfully? They played long-ball, ugly football while he spieled on about total football and a passing game, but they won games.

I dunno. I kind of give up, to be honest. I really have reached the stage where all hope is lost.

I’ve had to stop reading (the very good) On Fire With Fergie, as I can’t reconcile what we had before with what we have now.

These glory days are long gone, but to go to such a complete opposite now is kinda heart-breaking.

That's the thing Gary and I've already had a Caley fan on my FB page
saying that we should stop living in the past - thing is I don't know
a single Dandy who thinks its the early 1980s and we should be winning
the league year in, year out whilst competing at the highest levels of
European football.

Most of us, I think, want to see a team that matches up with the level
of salaries that they receive - if we're in the top four or five
biggest payers in the SPL is it outrageous to expect our team to be in
the top six every season?

With a fan base (this season apart) which is a lot larger than any
other club outwith the Old Firm and the Edinburgh clubs is it
outrageous to expect us to be regularly in the final 4 of the League
or Scottish Cups?

With a club turnover which is usually over a million pounds higher
than Dundee United is it outrageous of us to expect the team to
perform as well if not better than the Arabs?

Clearly not and yet since 1997 AFC have spent big and had little to
show for it except debt and one decent run in Europe - not a lot for
14 years!

In the past 14 years we've had 8 managers (if you count Heggarty),
numerous players, 4 Chief Executives and yet one chairman. Surely
its obvious what the only common factor in the past 14 years of
mediocrity has been and any management changes (again) would be
another excercise in papering over the cracks?

Its got to the stage now that I've went from being a season ticket
holder who attended most away games to just going to about six games
over the past three seasons and I've got to say given the choice
between the stresses of running an amateur fitba team during a dour
Scottish winter or going to watch AFC I know what's the more enticing!

Cheers,
Ewan

Had to laugh at this one, from today's EE.

ABERDEEN FC chief executive Duncan Fraser today underlined the club’s determination to bounce back from Pittodrie’s darkest day – with Craig Brown in charge.

Fraser described Aberdeen FC’s humiliating defeat by lowly East Fife in the Scottish Communities League Cup as “totally unacceptable”.

And he admitted Brown was told that at a hastily-arranged meeting at Gleneagles, where they had gone for a prearranged golf outing to thank the club’s main corporate sponsors.

‘Everything Will Now Be Aimed At Improving Aberdeen Fc’S Results’

So, the question I'm asking myself is, what was the aim before?

Shambles, from top to bottom.
