For decades, the treatment of choice for managing tic disorders, including Tourette syndrome, has been medication. While medications can be effective, many parents prefer not to place their children on medications unless necessary. Fortunately, there has been a resurgence of research supporting the use of habit reversal training (HRT), a specialized behavior therapy for the treatment of tics which can be implemented alone or in conjunction with medication management. This presentation will provide a brief overview of tic disorders, followed by a description of HRT, including its main component s, treatment indicators, and scientific support. This webinar is designed for mental health professionals interested in learning more about tics disorders and their treatment.
