Good afternoon ladies! I apologize for the late e-mail this month.

And I am sorry that we did not finish our discussion for our other novel.
If you have any interesting points you'd like discussed, please share it in this e-mail thread.

For our meeting, does the date July 14 work for everyone?
We can also discuss the next theme further.

So for the month of June, we will be reading:

Scarlet plague by Jack London
Dystopian Plague Classic! The year is 2072, and the earth has been depopulated by a plague epidemic that struck in 2013. The victims of the scarlet plague are dead within an hour or less of the first symptoms appearing. The plague is so swift that research laboratories are wiped out even as scientists are racing toward a cure. As panic spreads, order breaks down and looting and carnage reign. Broadcast stations fall silent. Aircraft fall from the sky as their pilots succumb. 60 years later an old man, Professor James Howard Smith, scrambles along overgrown railway tracks. He attempts to pass the flame of knowledge to his reluctant grandsons, who have known only a savage existence in an overgrown world - its graphic detail, vivid word-pictures, and remarkable prophetic accuracy make The Scarlet Plague one of the most memorable post-holocaust dystopian stories ever written. In a world of Swine Flu, germ-warfare and genetic splicing it makes the Scarlet Plague just that much more scary.

Good morning everyone!

I have finished the novel. It's super short but it's actually pretty good!
I mean, sure, it's written over 100 years ago so his technology is way off.

Can people please provide me with dates for our meeting?
Frances, I'm looking at you ;P

Here are the discussion questions we will cover:

1) The plague takes place in the year 2013. Do you think if this plague were to happen in 2013, would we have suffered the same fate as these people?
2) Do you think the Professor did a good job explaining the plague to his grandsons? What would you have done differently?
3) If you were in the Chauffeur's shoes, would you have treated your 'owners' as horribly as he did? Do you think he had the right to?
4) Is it right that the infected are turned away almost immediately to save the rest?
5) In the event of a pandemic, describe your first course of action. (You are at work and your coworker collapses in front of you)
6) Would you try to preserve literacy in this event?
7) Technology-wise, where do you think we will be in 100 years? Name some items you think we will have.

IMPORTANT ITEMS TO DISCUSS RE: CLUB

- Possible amendment to the "Will not read" list
Please bring your arguments to support your case. For ex, spaceships.

-Please bring titles for our next theme: Crime (check whatsapp for what falls under "crime")

Thank you :))

Let’s go for June 30th lol.

12th is freee ~

That weekend might be bad because 13th is friend’s bday and 15th is dads bday (therefore most likely celebrate on the 14th). Totally open skies from 16th to 26th.
