Open letter to patriotic soldiers and policemen

Patriotic officers and men,
The death of 44 PNP-SAF troops in Maguindanao is an unfortunate incident. We sympathize with the families of those killed in this worthless “counterterrorist operation” which wasted the lives of ordinary policemen. Benigno Aquino III has clearly taken orders from his US imperialist master whose “global war on terror” he fully supports.
Adding insult to injury, military and civilian officials of the Aquino government seek to put all the blame on a few generals and to discredit the MILF. They are now preoccupied in their effort to shield Aquino from his culpability.
More importantly, the Aquino clique endeavors to withhold, even in Congressional and Senate inquiries, the fact of US imperialism’s direct hand in the incident. Why do they evade questions regarding the real role of FBI and other US security agencies and their helicopters and drones sent to Mamasapano? Why was Maruan’s finger directly turned-over to the JSOTFP in Zamboanga as evidence? They seek to keep the people blind of the fact that this forms part of US imperialism’s plot of creating a scenario of terrorism in the Philippines to justify its military intervention in the country as part of the strategic pivot of its forces to East Asia. It was just assumed to be a legitimate counterterrorist act.
It is clear that the Aquino government will do anything to remain a faithful puppet to imperialist dictates. The triad operations of Oplan Bayanihan aim to hunt the revolutionary movement and terrorize the people to make way for foreign corporations. Clearly, the increasing COPD operations in the countryside in the region and across the nation do not bring peace and development and instead serve as bulldozers and backhoes of psychological warfare of big mining and agribusiness companies. Add to this the military-raised paramilitary groups such as BULIF, NIPAR, Bagani Force, Alimaong and their lot who are used to intimidate lumad communities and coerce them into surrendering their ancestral lands to agents of foreign interests.
Have you ever meditated upon the fact that instead of “helping” communities you have instead intimidated the masses, for instance, the hundreds of families in Agusan del Sur who have evacuated their homes just recently? Isn’t it ironic that in “serving and protecting” you have instead pointed your guns at the masses who are clamoring for social justice? Is it clear to you whom you serve?
We are aware that most of you, like us, come from the poor classes, and that you were only driven by the need to feed your families into becoming soldiers and policemen. We are aware that you have only held back your grudges against the abuses of your higher officials, as well as their corruption where they have made milking cows out of government programs such as Balik-Baril and the modernization of AFP, so that your plates do not go empty.
We are aware that like the majority of Filipinos, you are the victims of the ruling system which deprives us of basic economic progress and genuine democracy. We are also aware that you are merely used as pawns in the reactionary state’s dirty war against those who struggle for their legitimate demands.
History has shown us that, like chess pieces, you are being used by US imperialism in its interventionist plots in the Philippines and other countries, like they did in Vietnam in the ‘70s and in the Middle East for several decades running. Now, the US seeks to use the incident in Maguindanao to prove that terrorists like Maruan are being harbored in the Philippines and to justify its intervention in our internal matters. If you are that passionate to hunt terrorists like Maruan, why don’t you struggle against the real terrorist, US imperialism, who is truly responsible for bombings and other terrorist activities to create a scenario of terrorism in the Philippines and the whole world?
Time to make clear your stand. Are you for the inept regime that puts the lives of ordinary soldiers and policemen at stake to protect the interests of its foreign master who seeks to preserve its global hegemony? Or are you for the broad masses of the people, from whose ranks you come from?
Given recent events, the noblest patriotic act you can contribute is to expose the truth behind the Maguindanao tragedy. This will be of great help in serving justice for your fallen comrades.
We appeal to the nationalist and humanitarian spirit in each of you. It is high time for you to reexamine the road you are traveling, a road that has strayed so far from the patriotic and revolutionary tradition of the Katipunan, whose emblem adorns your uniforms. Your partisanship towards the broad masses of the people, especially the poor, is expected. The current issues of today themselves rouse you to learn to make a stand and organize your ranks under the principles of nationalism and genuine service to the people. As always, the revolutionary movement is open to establish links between sincere officers and men among your ranks.
