Shortly before the 1984 Canadian general election that put Brian Mulroney in power, a biography of Quebec’s colorful politician, Réné Lévesque appeared on the market. Mr. Lévesque signed off on the manuscript, including the last page, which contained a brief question and answer period.
The author asked Réné, what in his opinion would be the best option for the future of Quebec? The Premier replied, “I think the best chance for Quebec is in a Canada led by Brian Mulroney as the Prime Minister.”
The book was distributed free of charge to libraries and schools throughout Quebec. Mr. Levesque received $100,000 for his part in the biography.
Unfortunately, he never collected the money.
His wife and mother of his children seized the $100,000 in the hands of the publisher to pay for missed support payments that she was due.
