The alcoholic is like a tornado roaring his way through the lives of
others. Hearts are broken. Sweet relationships are dead. Affections
have been uprooted. Selfish and inconsiderate habits have kept the
home in turmoil. We feel a man is unthinking when he says that
sobriety is enough. He is like the farmer who came up out of his
cyclone cellar to find his home ruined. To his wife, he remarked,
"Don't see anything the matter here, Ma. Ain't it grand the wind
stopped blowin'?"

An alcoholic is about as stoppable as a tornado. Once our inebriated
ego takes over, there is no place to run or hide. Everyone in its path
is in jeorpardy of getting hurt. It doesn't take long for us to say or
do something so destructive that it changes lives. Our disease causes
us to act in ways we would never fathom once we get sober.
Manipulation, deception, stealing, lying - these are all things that
defined me when I was that drunken whirlwind.





Today, thank God, I am not a tornado. I would say I'm more like a
sunny sky with a few scattered clouds. (Because even though I'm sober
things aren't perfect, so the lingering clouds are included in my
forecast, LOL).





While still active in our disease, we often don't see anything wrong
with our behavior. We blame everyone else for all things wrong with
our life. There were times I could warp my own thinking into believing
that consequences of my boozing were just a small price to pay - I had
to drink, no matter what! My distorted thought process allowed me to
minimize and quickly black-out whatever harms I may have caused
others. "The wind stopped blowing" for today, but while still an
active drunk, there was inevitably another storm coming withing a
short matter of time.





Quick Prayer: God (of my own understanding) - Please let there be no
destructive storms in my forecast today.

O - Oh what a beautiful morning.. oh what a beautiful day .. I've got
a beautiful feeling .. something may go my way!
R - Right now I have a cup of coffee and a clear conscious - what more
could I ask for!?
N - Never say never - just worry about NOW
A - Another day sober .. thank God!
D - Did I mention TGIF!?
O - Only if I remain willing and take suggestions can I continue to
improve my life
