I am so excited to be dissecting this portion of The Big Book. The
next few sentences are The Promises which are guaranteed to come true
if I work the program. It doesn’t say “maybe’s”, the words are quite
clear in their meaning. The following blessings will come true IF my
desire and willingness remains strong and I take appropriate action to
work the steps into all areas of my life.


It’s amazing that 12 relatively simple steps can completely
revolutionize my life from a useless drunk to a valuable sober man.
It’s a promise.


The change started to become relevant once I admitted powerlessness,
accepted God (as I understand Him) and then began to evaluate myself
in order to bring my faults to the surface. The Promises started
coming true at this point in the process, even before I made amends or
began to help others. Amazing how someone who drank so hard for so
long could begin to recover so quickly.


The Program of recovery works – it works if you want it to!

THE PROMISES:

P – Pause before reacting – an awesome tool I often put to use.
R – Resentment and retaliation need be replaced with love and
forgiveness
O – One Day At A Time…
M – Many phone calls to make today – instead of getting overwhelmed –
I’m getting busy!
I – I have learned that gratitude is an action; not a word.
S – Sobriety is the easier, softer way
E – Every day is a new opportunity – make the most of TODAY
S – Staying motivated and inspired may not always be easy – but any
negative feelings that creep in shall pass.
