If you are looking for a data mining project you could do a lot worse
than having a detailed look at the 2005 listing of Devor which
includes lots of information on eccentric binary stars .

http://vizier.u-strasbg.fr/viz-bin/VizieR?-source=J/ApJ/628/411

What you will find is that many of the most eccentric stars listed are
not binary stars at all and it would be interesting, if somewhat time
consuming, the extract the matching lightcurves from the OGLE database
to prove what type of variable star they really are. Multiple
corrections to VSX could then follow.

Just a thought!

Hi Martin,

Excellent suggestion! In fact, automated classification of any sort of
rare species is likely to be fruitful ground for correction since the
number of false positives tends to be a significant fraction in such cases.

Cheers,
Doug
