I would like to discuss the points that Carla made in the email I am forwarding with this message at our board meeting on November 13.

Hi, Charles. Thanks for this revision.

Does AAVIA have a newsletter or other publication for members? If so, could we include information about that on this page, such as title, frequency of publication, formats available, and how to subscribe?

Does AAVIA have an e-mail list? Again, how does a person subscribe?

How does someone join AAVIA? What are the dues?

Does AAVIA have a website of its own? If so, let's add a link to that site.

Finally, I think the page would be much easier for visitors to read on-line if we turned some of the things AAVIA does into bulleted points. We can do that through formatting if that is all right with you.

We are looking forward to adding this information to your web page on acb.org. Thanks so much for participating in this project.

Hi Carla,

I am submitting a slightly modified version of our affiliate page.  The change is that the words”I am writing to introduce you to” have been deletede from the beginning.  I am setting forth the new version and attaching a copy to this message  Thank you.

The American Association of Visually Impaired Attorneys (AAVIA) to you as a useful resource for  law students who may face significant vision loss, attorneys, legal professionals and to any other  visually impaired  folks to whom our work and resources may prove beneficial.

Founded as an affiliate of the American Council of the Blind (ACB), AAVIA works to address the professional and career development, technological and social issues facing attorneys with vision loss.

Among other benefits, AAVIA provides members with networking opportunities and with the chance to discuss problems and share solutions in a supportive and knowledgeable setting.  AAVIA provides a forum through which its members can learnn from one another's use of technology to achieve work performance goals and overcome accessibility barriers; and through which members can share techniques for effectively handling issues in courtroom practice, in research, in interviewing and job search, and in other facets of their careers.  And perhaps most important, though least specific, AAVIA provides the emotional support and varying perspectives sometimes so useful for addressing and overcoming the fears and misconceptions of others regarding the ability of blind and visually impaired attorneys to function as productively as their fully sighted peers.

For law students or those considering a legal career, AAVIA offers unique entré into the world of law practice, providing information about the numerous career paths, practice areas and employment settings of our members, and offering the distilled wisdom and experience of those members in a unique mentoring role.

We hope you will share our information with your community, and we appreciate your attention to this letter.  We would be happy to answer any questions that you may have.

Thank you,
