Dear AATRN Networks Seminar members,

Our next online seminar will be Tuesday, 2 June, at 5pm CET / 11am Eastern Time.

Speaker: Alan Veliz-Cuba

Title: Algebraic Network Inference: From Finite to Continuous Dynamical Systems.

Abstract: We present a computational algebra framework for reverse engineering the network structure of discrete dynamical systems from data. We address both finite and continuous state spaces, demonstrating how algebraic tools can be universally applied to network inference. First, we explore the finite case, where computational algebra is used to determine minimal wiring diagrams from discrete data. We then extend this framework to discrete-time, continuous-space dynamical systems, eliminating the need for traditional data discretization algorithms that can introduce artifacts. By assuming that each coordinate function is monotone, we show how data constraints can be encoded into pseudomonomial ideals. Finally, we prove that with sufficient data, this continuous-space method guarantees perfect network recovery and successfully reconstructs the unique, correct signed directed graph, even in the presence of small observational noise.

We will meet in the following coordinates:
