Hi, All,

We have two historic structures on our property that have been deeded over to our non-profit organization. They were previously privately owned.

We need to establish a cleaning and maintenance schedule as they are no longer inhabited.

Is there specific training material or workshops that our staff can participate in to learn what cleaning solutions are appropriate to use and to learn how to set up a schedule for cleaning and overall maintenance?

Thank you so much and Aloha from Honolulu!

Best regards, Lisa Solomine

Hi All,
I have found that The National Trust "Manual of Housekeeping" is very helpful for maintaining a historic house.  ISBN 0-7506-5529-1

Hi Lisa -

We've been re-evaluating our deep cleaning and cyclical maintenance tasks. I found this document from CCAHA helpful: https://ccaha.org/sites/default/files/attachments/2019-12/2019_Housekeeping%20for%20Collections_GM.pdf.

When we hire new technicians, we start them off by watching these videos from NPS: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLF73955BF129CCCC4.

We have a massive Housekeeping Manual we've developed over the last 7 years or so, as well as comprehensive checklists and maintenance schedules. I'd be happy to share them, if you're interested.

Best,
Lisa

Mahalo, Lisa!
Thank you so much for the links to the CCAHA Collections Housekeeping Guide and the Videos for Housekeeping For Historic Sites. These are terrific!
If you wouldn't mind sharing your housekeeping manual and checklists, I would greatly appreciate it!
We are trying to hire staff specifically for housekeeping rather than hiring through cleaning companies.
Thank you SO much!
Aloha,
Lisa (from Honolulu)
