Humidity Control for HVAC Units

The humidity levels in our historic house are difficult to manage. We have been combating it for years with humidifiers and dehumidifiers, but are looking into adding humidity control to our existing hvac system. 

For anyone with these humidity control systems, have you found them to work successfully? Does anyone have a system that they would recommend or one that we should avoid? 

Any guidance would be appreciated.
