Uprooting 2000 trees in the West Bakn

On the 25 of April 10 farmers from the Palestinian village Deir Istya found military orders which are telling them about the coming uprooting of 2000 olive trees that have been planted in the past 7 years. The uprooting was supposed to take place within a week. The orders were left in the fields and not given to the farmers themselves. These are private Palestinian lands which are located in Wadi Qana, a beautiful wadi in the area of Salfit. The area was declared a nature reserve by Israel in the year 1983.

It might seem as farmers who are going over the law which prevents agricultural activity in nature reserves but what is really there is discrimination of Palestinians under the Israeli regime.

In the Reserve the is the outpost Alonei Shilo in which more than 20 families live. Peace Now have found that in the area of the nature reserve there are 123 buildings of nearby settlements.  These are not being demolished but the trees are considered as harm to the environment.

Unlike what is done with Israeli farmers, no consideration and agreements with the local farmers has been done in the case of the Palestinian farmers in Wadi Qana.

The process of declaration of a nature reserve is a long process of many stages in which stakeholders car argue against the authorities why the nature reserve is harming their rights and offer different arrangements for the area. Wadi Qana was declared as a nature reserve by a military order without any such discussion about it.

The current event at Wadi Qana illustrates how the state of Israel is not standing up to its' obligations to the welfare of all of the people under its' control. Regardless of the absurd that 2000 trees will be uprooted in the name of environmental conservation, this is a process that will create enormous damage to the people who earn a living out of the trees and to the relationships of Palestinians and Jews in the area.

This is not an isolated incident, Palestinan lands have been declared as nature reserves and national parks which takes the land from Palestinian hands to Israeli hands, many times also by dispossessing the local citizens and/or harming their rights to make a living. You can help raise a campaign against this issue.

ב 25/4 מצאו 10 חקלאים מדיר איסתיה צווים המורים להם לעקור תוך שבוע 2000 עצי זית שנטעו

במהלך 7 השנים האחרונות. הצווים הושארו במטעי הזיתים של החקלאים. מדובר על אדמות חקלאיות פרטיות של החקלאים שנמצאות בואדי קנה. האזור הוכרז כשמורת טבע על ידי ישראל בשנת 1983.
לכאורה מדובר כאן על חקלאים שאינם נשמעים לחוק האוסר פעילות חקלאית בשמורת טבע אולם בעצם יש כאן דוגמא לאפליה ממנה סובלים פלסטינים תחת שליטה ישראלית:

·          בשטח השמורה נמצא מאחז אלוני שילה שבו חיות מעל 20 משפחות. כמו כן, על פי בדיקה של שלום עכשיו, 123 מבנים של התנחלויות סמוכות בנויים על שטח השמורה. את המבנים והמאחז לא מפנים אבל העצים נחשבים משום מה לפגיעה בטבע.

·         כאשר מכריזים על שמורה בתוך הקו הירוק בשטח שמעובד בידי חקלאים יהודים מתחשבים מאוד בצרכים שלהם ומגיעים איתם להסדרים שלוקחים אותם בחשבון. כאן זה כלל לא נעשה.

·         הליך הכרזה על שמורה הוא תהליך ארוך שכולל שלבים שונים בהם בעלי עניין יכולים לטעון בפני הרשויות מדוע השמורה פוגעת בזכויות שלהם ולהציע הסדרים שונים. שמורת נחל קנה הוכרזה בצו צבאי בלא שום דיון ממין זה.

ההתנהלות בואדי קנה ממחישה כיצד ישראל מועלת בחובה שלה לדאוג לרווחתם של כל האנשים שחיים תחת שלטונה. מעבר לאבסורד שבעקירת 2000 עצים בשם שמירה על הטבע מדובר במהלך שיגרום נזק אדיר לעצים, לאנשים המתפרנסים מהם וליחסים בין יהודים ופלסטינים באזור.

מה אפשר לעשות?

 

·         ביום ראשון נפרסם מכתב הקורא לביטול הצווים. חשוב שכמה שיותר אנשים ישלחו את המכתב בפקס (אפשר לעשות זאת דרך המחשב) לגורמים האחראיים על כך. תוכלו למצוא את המכתב ביום ראשון בבלוג של דהרמה מעורבת חברתית engagedharma.wordpress.com

·         מה שקורה בנחל קנה אינו מקרה מבודד. במקומות רבים הוכרזו שמורות טבע וגנים לאומיים אשר מעבירים את הקרקע מידיים פלסטיניות לידים יהודיות, פעמים רבות תוך פגיעה בפרנסתם של אנשים ואפילו תוך סילוקם מהאזור. ראוי לקיים קמפיין שיגרום לרשות הטבע והגנים ולקק"ל לחדול מלנצל לרעה את העניין הסביבתי לצורך מטרות פוליטיות. אנשים המעוניינים לסייע באיסוף חומר ובניית הקמפיין/
