AAP Maharashtra

Press Note dated 8 May, 2013

AAP Protest against LBT at Azad Maidan

Aam Aadmi Party demands immediate withdrawal of LBT in Maharashtra and calls for a Maha Protest at Azad Maidan on 9th May 2013 at 4.30pm which will be led by Mayank Gandhi. AAP represents the consumers because the common man will be most affected by this additional tax burden that will cause a steep increase in prices.

We support the trading community in their fight and laud their peaceful protest in Mumbai for a third day in a row. In many cases the protestors faced arrest but it only intensified their resolve. More and more citizens groups and associations are joining the protest, Jewellers’ Associations and CA Associations have also pledged their support.

Hell bent on clearing the ground for FDI in retail by first destroying our domestic markets at the instructions of his party high command, Congress Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan continues to ignore the demands of his constituent traders. Other Congress leaders have also responded with the empty assurance of personal support, but plead helplessness before the party High Command's wishes. On the other hand, seeking to benefit politically from the well-organized traders' movement, BJP MLAs and petty leaders have been inciting violence in Nagpur where the protest has entered its 17th day. AAP Nagpur has been working with various groups advising them to exercise restrain in the protest and not give into attempts to derail the movement. Girish Nandgaonkar Spokesperson AAP Nagpur (9028205777) can be contacted for more details.

AAP believes LBT is mainly another window of corruption and will cause great harm to the State and we will not rest until LBT is withdrawn completely. State Spokesperson Sanjiv Sane (9869789705) can be contacted for more details.

Sincerely,

Preeti Sharma Menon
