On Thursday, February 6th, students were notified of an anonymous flyer mailed to the USC Asian Pacific American Student Services office. The document contained highly offensive language and imagery directed toward Asian Pacific Americans and, more specifically, Asian Pacific American women at USC. It was a racist, misogynistic and sexist attack with clear intentions of targeting the collective APA community.
USC is about to roll out with an action in response (link here: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B3ekTdNvkxjJX3M4Ql9odnROZ2M/edit) to the APA racist flyer incident on our campus. If your organizations would like to be included as a supporting entity on our press release, please message me or list your organizations here!
This hate incident serves as a reminder that discrimination toward Asian Pacific Americans and other minority groups still persists in today's society. As a university that claims to be highly diverse and fully inclusive of all of its students, our administration’s policies and actions have not reflected this sentiment.
We call upon USC administration and staff to transform our educational programs to include promotion of racial awareness and to increase institutional support for the APA community.
We need YOU to stand in solidarity in tackling the challenges that students of color experience in higher education.
Thank you so much!
