Professor Alexander Harang currently serves as Distinguished Adjunct Professor at Soka University of America and Senior Research Fellow for Nuclear Disarmament at Soka Institute for Global Solutions in California. He is also Senior Peace Researcher at the Ikeda Center for Peace, Learning and Dialogue in Boston. Professor Harang serves as national board member of No to Nuclear Weapons in his country of origin, Norway. He is the former leader of the Norwegian Peace Association, and has served as director of the Norwegian Peace Council, and the national representative of Norway to the International Peace Bureau over the last two decades.
Prof Harang has also been political advisor to the standing committees on foreign affairs and defense, at the Norwegian Parliament, from 2005 to 2009. Among Harang´s scholarly works are: Small but lethal, small arms munitions and the small arms treaty (Peace Research Institute Oslo, 2011) and Conscientious objection as war resistance and struggle for peace (Sandnes, 2022).
