Hey everyone,
Hope you’re all thriving during these anxious and unprecedented times.

As you know, EESG is co-sponsoring the AAG Annual Meeting pre-conference workshop by Geographers for Justice in Palestine (GJP) on March 25^th, 2025. Our EESG Plenary at AAG Annual Meeting aligns with this topic, with Dr. Muna Dajani (LSE) giving a talk entitled ""Green Colonialism, Ecocide, and the Liberation Struggle in Palestine." In addition to the pre-conference, plenary, and related programming at the Annual Meeting, GJP is a larger movement of geographers that stand in solidarity for Palestinian self-determination, liberation and return. EESG endorses this larger cause and campaign.

To this end, myself and several members of the EESG Executive Committee and Board of Advisors endorse the BDS Pledge (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) from GJP, urging the AAG as an institution and its members to support BDS in pursuit of justice for Palestinians. As energy geographers, we are increasingly inspired to conduct applied scholarship. Indeed, we are uniquely positioned to interrogate the intersections and entanglements of complex relations of energetic and political power. But beyond our analytical and pedagogical engagements, we must also work towards dismantling systems of oppression in support of emancipatory and transformational solutions. The ongoing genocide against Palestinians and occupation of Palestine compels us to organize for liberation within our institutions and spheres of influence. A reckoning is overdue, acknowledging the longue duree of epistemic injustices of our discipline (geography) and subdiscipline (energy geographies) have enacted, sustained and exacerbated innumerable genocidal and ecocidal atrocities globally.

In closing, I implore you to consider supporting GJP's BDSPledge, and invite you to consider participating in abolitionist engagements within our discipline and group. Thank you for your consideration and advocacy for this cause.
