Feng shui: your secret to academic success in 2013
21 Jan, 2013
If you're a student hoping for a new year of prosperity, wellbeing and academic success, you might want to contemplate how feng shui can help. Rosalind Scutt speaks to one of Australia's most renowned feng shui experts to find out how it could benefit students in 2013.

Feng shui (pronounced fung-shwee) is the ancient Chinese practice involving the co-ordination of one's environment to improve fortune, luck and general wellbeing by enticing the best possible qi (energy flow).
A five thousand year old practice in China and a mainstream belief in many eastern countries, feng shui is fast gaining popularity in Australia, although sceptics are likely to compare the art to a belief in Santa or the tooth fairy. But whether you're a believer or not, there's no harm in researching the idea or making simple changes to your environment, especially if you've set yourself some challenging targets in areas like academic achievement.
Mina Zheng is a renowned feng shui consultant, blogger and the founding director of Feng Shui Australia. Born in China and based in Sydney since 1990, Mina is the feng shui consultant for the 2013 Sydney Chinatown upgrade — a position that confirms her respect and good standing among the Chinese-Australian community.
"Feng shui is based on the environment. It is more a science than a cultural belief," says Mina, who has witnessed many cases of increased wellbeing and success in her clients that she attributes to feng shui.
"Some of my clients have become very successful and not only in business. I have helped people to find relationships, jobs and to fall pregnant".
For students, Mina has some simple tips for your study space that could help you to achieve academic success in 2013.
Mina's top tips
Although the above may help, Mina warns there are many other things to consider, which often come down to the individual. For example, each person has an element which represents academic luck. If you know what your luck element is, you can input the element by using the associated colour and object. A student with fire as their luck element could sit on red chair or have a lot of red visible in their room. In order to know your individual feng shui needs, you may need to seek professional advice.
Still not convinced? Give it a try! Mina says positive results should start to occur within just four weeks of implementing feng shui in your environment.
