We *can* end war from the ground up! More soldiers than ever are
speaking out against the war crimes committed in Iraq, against the
mishandling of soldiers' health care and in support of reparations for
Iraqis harmed by this occupation. According to one poll in 2006, an
overwhelming 72 percent of the troops serving in Iraq thought the US
should withdrawal by the end of the year.

Camilo Mejía is at the forefront of today's GI resistance movement and
serves on the board of directors of Iraq Veterans Against the War.

Formerly a staff sergeant serving sixth months in Iraq in 2003, Mejía
deserted after witnessing abuse and torture of Iraqi prisoners. He said
it was his duty to desert in order to avoid committing war crimes. Mejía
was court-martialed and sentenced to one year in prison, and after
emerging in February 2005, he filed for and received conscientious
objector status and began speaking out against the war.

Event organized by the Watermargin Education Program.
