Hello Team,
ITs official W4MW was #1 in the 2024 CQ WW VHF Contest.

Congrats to the W4MW VHF Contest Team for their #1 finish!
Operator(s): AA4ZZ K4CEB NI4E W3GQ W3OA W4GRW W4MW

Comments in Contest article
W4MW had a commanding effort in the multioperator category, more than doubling the score of second place N2NT. Roger and his team noted generally flat conditions. Notable contacts were some longer range tropo contacts on 2 meters to Illinois, Ontario and central Florida

Happy New Year to all -

There is also a big change in the new version of WSJT released yesterday.  It now includes a "Message System".  The User Guide says "The WSJT-X Message System can be used to invite your QSO partner to QSY to another QRG or mode (e.g. during contests), or to send some general short messages."

Details are at https://wsjt.sourceforge.io/wsjtx-doc/wsjtx-main-2.7.0-rc8.html#Message_System, Section 8.

The new rules are here:

CQ VHF - Rules

Note the times, I wonder if this is what is intended, 8AM Saturday EDT to 8AM Sunday EDT.
Perhaps this is due to other parts of the world.

Also FM and 146.52 is allowed in the SSB/CW contest.

Look at them and let me know what you see.

Hi Guys,
I was thinking these were consecutive weekends but there is a week between CW/SSB and the Digital contests...
Yes, Paul, doesnt the 8AM start time also favor the eastern USA?
My take on this is that W4MW/W4VHF/AA4ZZ will continue to be a power house in the digital contest,I can see us working all 24 hours on the air, since plenty of time to "rest up later"
We can be a top 5 in the analog contest but we lose the ability to work all of those 100watt home stations we can work on FT-8.
Its also going to be interesting to see how the other big multi-op stations approach the new rules.

on the analog contest, it brings up several things to me.
CW> Will it allow us to invite say a Charles, or Tim, or a stronger CW, op? I am thinking that CW will maybe be the way to go in the overnight hours
SSB>Of course,  Wayne and I can handle SSB, Paul, you are like a switch hitter you can work SSB and CW. Do we add something ,like Skimmer to our arsenal of weapons?
FM> I need to make sure that I try and put out even more publicity to maximize the bubbas. Maybe start at 9AM-9 til 10PM
we have a much stronger omni for FM now..so that is a big plus..do we run more power? If we are switching to the TS2000 for FM, we can use one of our 300Watt bricks vs 180 watts.

the good thing is that any changes we make can be tested in June.

Paul, whats yout thoughts?
Dick, what about you?

Bill

My input..KISS.  Turn on the radio, listen and transmit!  I’m not a wiz, but I can work some CW.
