Hey guys,
I ended up giving the January VHF my best run this past weekend. Band conditions were not fantastic as would be expected in January with no tropo, and 50 MHz was up and down in this part of NC the entire weekend. At times I could hear a lot of stations in New England grid squares who couldn’t hear me which was frustrating because I could have had a lot more multipliers.
I submitted a log to ARRL and had 88 QSOs, 36 multipliers and 3,564 points. I probably worked 18 hours total over the contest period.
I was surprised at how well I did on 144 & 432 FT-8. My furthest 432 contact was in Alpharetta, GA which is pretty good given my 19-element yagi is only at 25 feet and I was using a 100W brick and pre-amp. I have no rotators so I was outside a million times over the weekend turning the 144/432 stack and then the 50 MHz stack.
I need to get the tower up with a rotator so I can sit in here and enjoy the high life while working QSOs.
All in all it was fun.
