I've tried several times to reach Roger Webb.   He finally sent a note sneaking through the mess on the cellular system.

Here's Roger's reply:

"Thanks, John.  We are OK.  Got power back on.  I have been working on our road, cutting trees off the road.  And, cleared a neighbor's driveway.

Hurricane force winds.  My antennas need repair and some shingles blown off the roof.

Very limited cell service as everyone is using it.  No Internet.  Phone lines are down.

We got power back on but most of the county is still dark.  We get power because of all the communication tower are up here!

Tell people to stay home.  Portions of Junaluska road are partially washed out."

Things are dire in western Carolina.  I understand I-40 is closed to all but emergency traffic west of Statesville!   I've been listening to the Mt Mitchell repeater  (145.19MHz, -600Khz, no tone).   Swannanoa east of Asheville was really hard hit.  The Rich Mountain repeater (147.36MHz,  +600Khz, Tone=103.5) seems to be solid here near Davidson and is just up the road from W4MW.  I'll drop him a line that it might be useful for him if cell connections remain dicey.  Maybe we can set up a sked if things don't improve soon.

John,

Thank you for the update on Roger.

I was able to text back and forth with him on Friday and Saturday but had not heard back from him today so glad to hear he has power back. Sounds like he is busy cleaning up.

I have been listening to the health and welfare traffic nets on 7.232 and 3.923 as some ham volunteers have been doing their best to pass information and to pass some names of missing people that family can’t locate.

I am too far out of range for Mt. Mitchell 145.19, but glad that resource is available since it has a great coverage area.

Such as sad situation in Western NC and prayers for the folks suffering in this devastation.

73,

Alex Macklin

I talked with Roger yesterday afternoon (Tuesday.)  He had just gotten his internet back so he can communicate better now.

Paul,

Thanks for passing along info.

The rotator was damaged and minor damage to my 6m antenna.  The rotator needs to be replaced.

As soon as I can confirm that FedEx or UPS is making deliveries up here, then I will order a new rotator and other necessary items.

I need to get some more bolts as I don't want to use those that came with the thread lock.  Does anyone remember the size and length.  9/16" by 1.5" long????

I hope a work party will be available sometime this month to help me with this task.

Thank you,

Roger
