Michigan Youth Club Ultimate (SEMI)
Information for the 2015 Season
What
SEMI is Michigan’s open club team for ultimate players under 19. Club means that the team draws from many schools and communities across the Great Lake State. Under 19 (U-19) means that a player must not have turned 19 before
More importantly, SEMI is an effort to enhance and elevate youth ultimate in Michigan, and provide an opportunity for players from across the state to connect, have fun, develop their skills, and compete against teams from other states.
When, Where
Practices will start Wednesday May 27, after the Michigan high school championships. Practices will be held once a week (tentatively, Wednesday evenings) with two special weekend practices to be scheduled. Most practices will be in the Ann Arbor area, pending logistics regarding field space.
Tournaments we are aiming for include:
July 18-19 – YCC Warm-up, Indianapolis IN
July 25-26 – Motown Throwdown, outside Toledo OH
Aug 7-9 – Youth Club Championships (YCC), Blaine MN
Requirements/Commitment
The level of commitment required will “ultimately” depend on players themselves and what they commit to each other. Roughly speaking though, a minimum commitment would be making five regular practices, at least one special weekend practice, and one tournament.
Practices will generally be open to anyone who is motivated to improve and willing to commit to the team—i.e. there will not be explicit tryouts. Individual roles on the team, however, will be based on performance. Feedback and evaluations will be addressed with each individual player.
Costs
We will endeavor to minimize costs wherever possible, but there will be costs incurred for travel, tourney fees, insurance, jerseys, and other miscellaneous items. A $100 initial team fee is required which includes a jersey and one tournament. Membership in USA Ultimate may also be required (fees vary depending on your status). Additional costs will be addressed as needed thereafter.
