The Lansing Give Camp has been announced!

I highly recommend give camps.  It's rewarding to ship a product and even more rewarding when that product significantly helps out a charity.

I blogged about last year's:  http://geekswithblogs.net/ignu/archive/2009/05/24/132400.aspx (and yeah, now I'm appalled at the amount of infrastructure and waste needed to get an MVC site off the ground)

Anyway, Ruby needs to represent so we don't keep handing these charities .NET and .NETNuke sites for their really simple needs that are twice as expensive to host and build as anything else.

I was a .NET developer for 6 years and have been using Ruby for the past 4 years. If there are any .NET type developers that want to get together before the give camp to at least get started with Ruby and Ruby on Rails, I am willing to do a tutorial session, probably using the Rails Bridge training materials and the Ruby Koans. We'll have to work out meeting places and times as I live in Toledo. My dad lives in Mason, although, so I have a place to spend the night if need be.

I'll also be attending, and trying to talk some of my PHP and Python friends into coming (though they have also expressed interest in Rails).

I'll be there, too!  Funny, Len, I didn't realize you were there last year.  I was there, too and worked on a Joomla site (gack!) and was then moved to a DNN site.  Both CMSs were very confusing from a usability and a development standpoint.  I'd be very happy to work with a Rails team.  I know there was one group there who worked on a Castle.NET site and I think they did pretty well IIRC.

I'd be interested in Rails training and in Give Camp.  I went to Give Camp in Ypsi last summer and got a lot out of it.

The main site has been updated with this year's info. While
registering, I noticed that you can put in your own team name. Anyone
else interested in forming "Team Ruby 4eva" (I'm open to other
suggestions for a name)?

I was able to rope in a member of our Toledo.rb group for the Lansing
give camp. I'm working on others in the group. If there is a Lansing
Ruby meeting earlier in the month, I should be able to attend that.
Maybe we could have a pre-camp side meeting so that give camp newbies
(like me) have an idea what to expect.
