Hi All,
I'm writing to spread the word about a local job, and hopefully to get some tidbits of advice on creative ways to spread the word about local opportunities like this one beyond emails and job boards (is it really only meetups and conferences?).
We've had a posting up for a few weeks on job boards (like indeed and simply hired) but as most you know, good developers are rarely seeking out new jobs themselves so the job listing hasn't been much help.
I'm a developer myself (I was part of Stereo Interactive and Design in Ann Arbor for many years, before that I started a local business called
eatblue.com) and I know that we got all our gigs through word of mouth or a friend-of-a-friend situation. I only know a few of you on these lists personally, but I'm hoping you'll consider me a friend-of-a-friend and are willing help me out :)
Here are the details:
Our startup "Quikly" is venture-backed and located in the M@dison building in downtown, Detroit. Currently we have a team of five and I'm the only developer. Our site is a ruby/rails app that uses postgres, memcache, rspec, coffeescript, jquery. We've worked with some major brands (Detroit Pistons, Moosejaw, Fathead, and even did a Bon Jovi concert!) and are having a great time developing our platform. We've been written up in Xconomy, Forbes, TechCrunch and hope to make our mark in the tech startup scene in Detroit.
I'm optimistic that there are others in the area that were in a similar position that I was before I joined Quikly last year… working happily on building web apps for clients, but toying with the idea of focusing on one app and having a major say in how it works and how its built.
Here is the full job posting. Please share with friends if you feel comfortable doing so. (Also, for those of you who have hired before or have been checking out jobs online… is this job posting effective?)

I'm hoping to find someone local (southeastern Michigan), but we are open to telecommuters, too.
Thanks again, and I'm looking forward to meeting many of you at the next tech meetup!
