Hi Detroit CI Community!
I’m a contact improvisation teacher visiting from San Francisco and excited to be offering a special 3-week contact improvisation class & jam series starting next Tuesday, May 12 at 7:30pm at Andy Arts in Detroit. Join for all three classes or drop-in when you can :) You can join for the whole evening or also just come to jam (although coming for the full evening, 2.5 hours of CI, is so fun).

No one turned away for lack of funds. Keeping it low cost at $15 pre-pay per class or $20 at the door, but if cost is any hindrance to coming, please reach out and we'll make it work. Also, reach out with any other questions or just to say hello.

- Week 2 | May 19 - Spiraling In & Cascading (with live music during jam, artist tba)
- Week 3 | May 26 - Ensemble & Composition (with live jam during jam by Weather Citizen)

*class is 7:30-9pm and jam 9-10pm each week
Feel free to forward and share with friends. This is a great way for beginners to dive deeper into the practice and also for experienced dancers to have a focused 3 weeks in a row, layering on concepts as we go along together.
More about me: I’ve been the organizer & host of the San Francisco CI jam since 2021. Co-organizer of wcciJAM (west coast contact improvisation jam) in 2024 & 2025, co-organizer of the upcoming California Contact Improvisation Campout, and Board Member of Nita Little’s nonprofit The Institute for the Study of Somatic Communication. I teach across the SF Bay Area & beyond. I am grateful for my incredible CI & somatics teachers: Scott Wells, Nita Little, Sarah Shelton Mann, Bear (James) Graham, Carol Swann, Diane Elliot, Carmen Serber, Andrew Harwood, Chris Aiken, Keith Hennessy to name a few who have shaped me and my practice significantly. I grew up in Michigan and went to school at University of Michigan. It feels so nice to be able to offer contact improvisation while I’m in town visiting family. Currently fascinated by ensemble/composition as a fertile ground for creativity + emergence. We’ll build up to this in our class series. www.merrickjacob.com
