(Each of us will be doing a different thesis including the topic we chose, using the materials we got together)
_ Introduce the topic of sex before marriage/marriage.
_ Each of own own thesis (will be posted in the next 2 days or so)
_ Vietnamese culture was and still is affected by the Confucius teachings. Sex is the mixing of positive and negative, yin and yang.
_ A women's purity and her virtue, her dignity lies with her virginity. Thus, losing her virginity and giving it up before the sacred ritual of marriage, which binds a man and a woman together, is an absolute insult to the gentle and the purity and virtuous image of a woman.
_ Punishments: shave their heads, put lime(stone) on it (to mark) and is looked down on severely, is ostracized.
_Nowadays: the younger generation (8x, 9x) have a more open view. The symbolism of a woman's virginity isn't as strong. And also, as they are more educated, the chances of getting pregnant are relatively lower.
_Reasons:
+ Westernization: Have a more open view on sex b4 marriage.
+ Pop culture: scandals -> the followers think it is cool
+ Media: TV, books, internet. Black websites -> Curious
+ Peer pressure: the pressure of self-confidence and personal ego.
+ Education: lack of education coming from the parents as well as the school since it is considered a touchy subject.
-> Transition: 6x still like before. 7x torn between change (post war), break through. 8x, 9x have open views, influenced by foreign cultures.
3. Conclusion
As we are doing each a different thesis, each conclusion would be different. In all its about the views and how it has changed, more specifically analyzing the reasons.
