to A Raisin in the Sun
Walter and Prometheus are very similar. In the myth of Prometheus, he
is gifted with such knowledge, and the ability to determine “how
sacrifices were made to the gods.” He is a noble god, which can be
compared to Walter who Is a smart man in A Raisin in the Sun.
Zeus claimed revenge on Prometheus at one point. Prometheus was then
chained and suffered consequences. He was imortal, so therefore
suffered for eternity. Walter in comparison, is in poverty and
currently unemployed. He has struggles equivalent to Prometheus’
standards.
This allusion helps grasp a better understanding to conflicts in the
play by using a comparison model to depthen the meaning in a different
context. For example, the Greek mythology helped me understand certain
aspects to Walter’s problem.
