Prometheus is a god that was assigned the task of creating mankind
form earth and water. He became fonder of men and wanted to help them.
Zeus didn’t like how Prometheus was favoring men so he took fire away
from him and the people. Prometheus wanted to help so he stole fire
form Zeus. The furious Zeus punished Prometheus by having him chained
to a rock. Also an eagle would eat his liver every day, but would not
kill him because he was immortal. The eagle eating the liver
foreshadows what may happen to Walter. If he ever starts the liquor
store he will begin to drink more and cause harm to his liver. The
Alcohol will continue to cause harm and could eventually kill him.
George is telling Walter, in a way that he will not understand, don’t
become a drunkard and ruin your chances of having the American dream.
It will only cause you and your family harm.

I agree with Emma about the foreshadowing towards Walter and the
destruction the liquor store will do to his family. Also, I find that
you took the literary idea of Prometheus’s liver getting eaten
everyday by the eagle and actually making it in to a real world
situation in which, Walter’s liver will be destroyed constantly
everyday by the alcohol in his store. However, I feel like you could
definitely relate Zeus to Ruth or Mama who keep on challenging Walter
and his dreams telling him to worry about his family and not himself.
In addition, it seems that Prometheus and Walter mean well but there
perspectives are completely different. Prometheus wanted to help his
creations strive…to be the greatest thing in history; while Walter is
being somewhat selfish in the fact that he only wants the liquor store
to have more money for himself.
