I believe Ruth is responsible for Walter's situation of being denied
his dream. This is shown when Walter is talking about his opportunity
to be part of the dry cleaning business with Charlie Atkins. However
Ruth claims he is "a good for nothing loud mouth", and I think Ruth's
opinion means a lot to Walter. This is why Walter didn't go into that
business. For example Walter says "That is just what is wrong with the
colored women in this world... Don't understand about building their
men up and making 'em feel like they somebody. Like they can do
something." This shows that Walter wants Ruth to back up Walter's
decision. Walter needs Ruth's support to help convince Mama for the
money. I believe with Ruth's support for Walter's ideas he would be
successful.

I do not necessarily agree that Ruth is to be the one blamed for all
of Walters’s dreams being denied. Walter cannot simply blame all his
misfortunes on Ruth, part of the outcome of the situation and dreams
Walter have are from himself. He can change what to do; he just wants
to blame it on others to make himself feel better. However id do feel
that he has the right to blame others, not Ruth but segregation.
Walter lives in a tough time especially as a low waged African
American. Walter blames the society and environment he is based off.
His dreams aren’t crushed they are simply altered if he would focus on
his dream and not on blaming others he could have a good shot at
making his dreams.

Although Walter does say that It's important for a woman to build
their man up, i do not think it is fair to blame Ruth for his
predicament. the way that Walter blames everything on other people is
a way to avoid shaming himself in his own eyes, it is not Ruth's job
to be responsible for her husbands success. where i see where some of
Walters ideas about Ruth being responsible come from, does not make
these ideals true or fair. As Walter blames more and more people he
takes the weight of his own failure by putting it on others, this
behavior will only cause Walter to fail further. so I believe that by
Walter blaming rut like this it is just an act of him easing his own
pain.

I agree with max. I believe that Walter has caused his own situation
he is in for those listed reasons. How can he expect to succeed when
he can't even take responsibility for his actions?
