Title: Some admins may be unable to register new Windows Autopilot devices or update Autopilot group tags in Microsoft Intune

User impact: Admins may have been unable to register new Windows Autopilot devices or update Autopilot group tags in Microsoft Intune

More info: Affected admins may have observed that Windows Autopilot group tag updates didn’t persist after saving, and hardware hash imports were in an incomplete or processing state while the event was ongoing. As a result, profile assignments that relied on Autopilot group tags may not have applied as expected, and registration of new Windows Autopilot devices may have failed.

Final status: We’ve identified and reverted a change in the Intune service, and telemetry confirms that the service has returned to normal functionality and that customer impact has resolved.

Scope of impact: Some admins attempting to register new Windows Autopilot devices or update Autopilot group tags in Microsoft Intune may have been impacted.

Start time: Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at 5:42 PM UTC

Preliminary root cause: A change that was intended to update network traffic routing configurations interrupted Admins ability to register new Windows Autopilot devices or update Autopilot group tags in Microsoft Intune.

Next steps:

- We’re reviewing internal process related to the configuration change pipeline to avoid similar impact in the future.

We'll provide a preliminary Post-Incident Report within two business days and a final Post-Incident Report within five business days.
