Title: Some users in Asia-Pacific may have encountered issues with various Microsoft Teams features

User impact: Users in Asia-Pacific may have encountered issues with various Microsoft Teams features.

More info: Affected users may have been unable to search for external or federated users, view user profile information, or saw “Unknown user” displayed in place of names in meetings in Microsoft Teams.

Impacted scenarios may have additionally included, but weren't limited to:

- Creating group chats or channels

- Creating new meetings

- Adding members to existing meetings

Final status: We’ve confirmed that the service changes have successfully restored affected Microsoft Teams functionality, including user profiles, presence updates, and external and federated user search scenarios. We confirm, after an extended period of monitoring service health telemetry, that service has returned to expected performance levels and has been fully remediated.

Scope of impact: Impact was specific to some users served through the affected infrastructure in Asia Pacific, attempting to search for external users or view user profile information, and utilize various Microsoft Teams features.

Start time: Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 5:50 AM UTC

End time: Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 11:23 AM UTC

Root cause: An unexpected increase in request volume caused a portion of the infrastructure supporting user discovery to perform below acceptable thresholds.

Next Steps:

- We’ll continue to closely monitor the affected infrastructure to ensure the service remains healthy, and we’ll review our service resilience processes to help us reduce or avoid similar issues in the future.

This is the final update for this event
