Additionally, admins may have been unable to view their policies or navigate in the Purview portal. Retries may have succeed.

Additionally, investigations and workflows handled by Defender Experts may have been delayed. Furthermore, any remediations that fired via Threat Explorer and Advanced Hunting may have failed. Admins may have to re-trigger remediations manually from Threat Explorer and Advanced Hunting.

Final status: We’ve completed reverting the networking update and confirmed through service telemetry and customer reports that this issue is resolved.

Scope of impact: Users accessing Microsoft 365 services through affected network paths in the North America region may have been impacted. Users from other regions who were served by this infrastructure may also have experienced impact.

Start time: Thursday, July 23, 2026, at 2:44 PM UTC

End time: Thursday, July 23, 2026, at 6:26 PM UTC

Preliminary root cause: A recent update to a portion of network infrastructure in the US West region introduced a misconfiguration which interrupted the process by which IP ranges connect requests with downstream services, leading to impact.

Next steps:

-We’re assessing our traffic routing change processes to ensure similar changes don’t introduce future issues.

We'll provide a preliminary Post-Incident Report within two business days and a final Post-Incident Report within five business days.
