Title: Some users in Asia-Pacific may encounter issues with various Microsoft Teams features

User impact: Users in Asia-Pacific may have encountered issues with various Microsoft Teams features.

More info: Impacted scenarios included but weren't limited to:

- Creating new group chats, 1:1s, Teams, channels or meetings

- Adding members to existing meetings, chats or teams

- Townhalls and events

- Recordings

- Inbound and Outbound Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) calls

- Admin policy enforcements

- Presence

Final status: After an extended period of monitoring during peak Asia-Pacific business hours, we've confirmed through internal telemetry and external user reports that the issue is resolved. Increased CPU usage on our service, coupled with a reduced CPU capacity due to planned maintenance, degraded the service and caused impact to users. We will provide more information within our Post-Incident Report.

Scope of impact: Impact was specific to some users in the Asia-Pacific region attempting to utilize various Microsoft Teams features.

Start time: Monday, May 18, 2026, at 6:17 AM UTC

End time: Monday, May 18, 2026, at 1:00 PM UTC

Root cause: Increased CPU usage on our service, coupled with a reduced CPU capacity due to planned maintenance, caused degradation to the service, resulting in impact.

Next steps:

- We're performing a complete analysis of this incident to understand the underlying cause of the problem and develop corresponding defense-in-depth repair items.

We'll provide a preliminary Post-Incident Report within two business days and a final Post-Incident Report within five business days.
