"My heartfelt wish for you:

as you get older,

your self will diminish

and you will grow in love."

~George Saunders

Our concern must be to live while we’re alive

--to release our inner selves from the spiritual death

that comes with living behind a façade

designed to conform to external definitions

of who and what we are.

-Elisabeth Kuebler- Ross

We spend our time searching for security

and hate it when we get it.

-John Steinbeck

I sometimes forget that I was created for joy.

My mind is too busy.

My heart is too heavy for me to remember

that I have been called to dance

the sacred dance of life.

I was created to smile, to Love,

to be lifted up and to lift others up.

O Sacred One, untangle my feet

from all that ensnares.

Free my soul that we might Dance

and that our dancing

might be contagious.”

~ Hafiz

I always thought that posting our locations with our anniversaries was a great way to show newcomers that AA is all over the world. So I wish you would send your locations with your anniversary dates. We don't celebrate for our own benefit.

We celebrate anniversaries to show the program works.

If we add our locations we get to show

that AA works EVERYWHERE!

12&12

Step Ten - "Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it."

Disagreeable or unexpected problems are not the only ones that call for self-control. We must be quite as careful when we begin to achieve some measure of importance and material success. For no people have ever loved personal triumphs more than we have loved them; we drank of success as of a wine which could never fail to make us feel elated. When temporary good fortune came our way, we indulged ourselves in fantasies of still greater victories over people and circumstances. Thus blinded by prideful self confidence, we were apt to play the big shot. Of course, people turned away from us, bored or hurt.

pp. 91-92

TWENTY-FOUR HOURS

A.A. Thought For The Day

Step Eight is, "Made a list of all persons we had harmed

and became willing to make amends to them all." Step Nine

is, "Made direct amends to such people wherever possible,

except when to do so would injure them or others." Making

restitution for the wrongs we have done is often very

difficult. It hurts our pride. But the rewards are great.

When we go to a person and say we are sorry, the reaction

we get is almost invariably good. It takes courage to make

the plunge, but the results more than justify it. A load is

off your chest and often an enemy has been turned into

a friend. Have I done my best to make all the restitution

possible?

Meditation For The Day

There should be joy in living the spiritual life. A faith

without joy is not entirely genuine. If you are not happier

as a result of your faith, there is probably something wrong

with it. Faith in God should bring you a deep feeling of

happiness and security, no matter what happens on the surface

of your life. Each new day is another opportunity to serve God

and improve your relationships with other people. This should

bring joy. Life should be abundant and outreaching. It should

be glowing and outgoing, in ever widening circles.

Prayer For The Day

I pray that my horizons may grow ever wider.

I pray that I may keep reaching out for more service

and companionship.

Belief

"Despite contrary indications, I had little doubt that a mighty purpose and rhythm underlay all. How could there be so much of precise and immutable law, and no intelligence? I simply had to believe in a Spirit of the Universe, who knew neither time nor limitation."

Bill W.

1976 AAWS, Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 10

Thought to Consider . . .

Faith is not belief without proof; it's trust without reservation.

DAILY REFLECTION

A "LIMITLESS LODE"

Like a gaunt prospector, belt drawn in over the last ounce

of food, our pick struck gold. Joy at our release from a

lifetime of frustration knew no bounds. Father feels he has

struck something better than gold. For a time he may try to

hug the new treasure to himself. He may not see at once

that he has barely scratched a limitless lode which will pay

dividends only if he mines it for the rest of his life and

insists on giving away the entire product.

ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, pp. 128-29

When I talk with a newcomer to A.A., my past looks me

straight in the face. I see the pain in those hopeful eyes, I

extend my hand, and then the miracle happens: / become

healed. My problems vanish as I reach out to this trembling

soul.

POT LUCK

“In our Twelve Traditions we have set our faces against nearly every trend in the outside world.

We have denied ourselves personal government, professionalism and the right to say who our members shall be. We have abandoned do-goodism, reform and paternalism. We refuse charitable money and prefer to pay our own way. We will cooperate with practically everybody, yet we decline to marry our Society to anyone. We abstain from public controversy and will not quarrel among ourselves about those things that so rip society asunder -- religion, politics and reform. We have but one purpose: to carry the AA message to the sick alcoholic who wants it.

We take these attitudes not at all because we claim special virtue or wisdom; we do these things because hard experience has told us that we must -- if AA is to survive in the distraught world of today.
