BIG BOOK QUOTE

The fact is that most alcoholics, for reasons yet obscure, have lost the power of choice in drink. Our so-called will power becomes practically nonexistent. We are unable, at certain times, to bring into our consciousness with sufficient force the memory of the suffering and humiliation of even a week or a month ago. We are without defense against the first drink.

We celebrate anniversaries to show the program works.

If we add our locations we get to show

12&12

Step Ten - "Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it."

In all these situations we need self-restraint, honest analysis of what is involved, a willingness to admit when the fault is ours, and an equal willingness to forgive when the fault is elsewhere. We need not be discouraged when we fall into the error of our old ways, for these disciplines are not easy. We shall look for progress, not for perfection.

p. 91

TWENTY-FOUR HOURS

A.A. Thought For The Day

Step Four is, "Made a searching and fearless moral

inventory of ourselves." Step Five is, " Admitted to

God to ourselves and to another human being the exact

nature of our wrongs." Step Six is, "Were entirely

ready to have God remove all these defects of

character." Step Seven is, "Humbly asked Him to remove

our shortcomings." Step Ten is, "Continued to take

personal inventory and when we were wrong, promptly

admitted it." In taking a personal inventory, we have

to be absolutely honest with ourselves and with

other people. Have I taken an honest inventory of myself?

Meditation For The Day

God is good. You can often tell whether or not a thing

is of God. If it is of God, it must be good. Honesty,

purity, unselfishness, and love are all good, unselfish

helpfulness is good, and these things all lead to the

abundant life. Leave in God's hands the present

and the future, knowing only that He is good. The hand

that veils the future is the hand of God. He can bring

order out of chaos, good out of evil, and peace out of

turmoil. We can believe that everything really good comes

from God and that He shares His goodness with us.

Prayer For The Day

I pray that I may reach out for the good.

I pray that I may try to choose the best in life.

Inventory

"A few months after I made my original trip to Akron, I was feeling pretty cocky, and I didn't think my wife was treating me with proper respect, now that I was an outstanding citizen. So I set out to get drunk deliberately, just to teach her what she was missing. A week later, I had to get an old friend from Akron to spend two days sobering me up. That was my lesson, that one could not take the moral inventory and then file it away; that the alcoholic has to continue to take inventory every day if he expects to get well and stay well."

1976, Alcoholics Anonymous, pp. 293-4

Facing All In Trusting Him

DAILY REFLECTION

H.P. AS GUIDE

See to it that your relationship with Him is right, and great

events will come to pass for you and countless others. This

is the Great Fact for us.

ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, p. 164

Having a right relationship with God seemed to be an

impossible order. My chaotic past had left me filled with

guilt and remorse and I wondered how this "God business"

could work. A.A. told me that I must turn my will and my

life over to the care of God, as I understand Him. With

nowhere else to turn, I went down on my knees and cried,

"God, I can't do this. Please help me!" It was when I admitted

my powerlessness that a glimmer of light began to

touch my soul, and then a willingness emerged to let God

control my life. With Him as my guide, great events began

to happen, and I found the beginning of sobriety.

POT LUCK

  Keep It Simple

If you do not tell the truth about yourself,

you cannot tell it about other people.

—Virginia Woolf

Working the Twelve Steps helps us learn the truth.

As we struggle with Step Four, we learn the truth about ourselves.

We learn even more about ourselves by doing Steps Eight and Ten.

When we admit the truth about ourselves, things come into focus.

Big changes begin to happen.

As a result, we can see other people more clearly.

We see bad sides in people we thought were perfect.

We see good sides in people we hated.

We start to know that everyone has to work hard

to find what’s right for them.

No one has all the answers.

In short, we begin to trust others who also are looking for the truth.

Prayer for the Day: Higher Power, help me clearly see myself and others.

Action for the Day: Today, I’ll think about how doing Step Ten keeps me clear about what’s going on in my life.
