Sober Speak Episode 443 — "We Take Care of Each Other" featuring Rachel W.

Released April 10, 2026

What does it look like when someone goes from their lowest point to building a life they never imagined? This week on Sober Speak, Rachel W. shows us exactly that.

Sober since October 10, 2013, Rachel went from a felony record and active alcoholism to becoming a business owner in the recovery field. Her story is proof that transformation is possible, and it's happening every day.

When Rachel found Alcoholics Anonymous, she discovered something unexpected: a genuine connection. Not judgment, not lectures, just people who understood. She leaned into the program with what she calls being "200% honest," and that radical honesty became the foundation for everything that followed.

Sponsorship was a game-changer. Having someone walk beside her through the 12 steps gave Rachel both accountability and a sense of belonging. That experience shaped her so deeply that she now sponsors others and stays rooted in service.

From there, Rachel pursued education, stayed consistent, and built a business in the recovery space. Her advice for anyone on the fence? "What do you got to lose?"

One of the most moving parts of this conversation is Rachel talking about her daughter. Recovery didn't just give her a career; it gave her family back.

As Rachel puts it: "Look what God did."

If you or someone you know is struggling, take a chance. The rooms are full of people who take care of each other.

We’re Doing a Step Study This Summer, and You’re Invited

The steps have a way of changing people. That’s really all we can tell you. Come find out for yourself.

This summer, we’re launching a 12-week online step study beginning Tuesday, May 26th at 6:00 PM Central, and we want you to be part of it.

David G. will be leading the study. If you’ve heard him on the podcast, you already know he brings something real to his message. Each week, he and special guests will share their own experience with the steps, what they looked like in practice, what got in the way, and what changed because of the experience. You’ll also get homework. Not busy work. The kind of work that actually changes lives.

Cost:
There is a small $5 registration fee to cover the cost of putting this together. Anything left over goes back to Alcoholics Anonymous. If cost is a concern, please don’t let it stop you. Just reach out, and we will take care of it. No questions asked.

What to expect:

·        12 weekly sessions held online via Zoom

·        Live video, you’ll see us, we’ll see you

·        Weekly homework tied to each step

·        A small group of people working together. We will break into smaller groups during the calls.
