“There are many paths that lead to the summit

of one and the same mountain;

their differences will be the more apparent the lower down we are,

but they vanish at the peak;

each will naturally take the one that starts

from the point at which he finds himself;

he who goes round about the mountain

looking for another is not climbing.

~Ananda Coomaraswamy

"Your wrinkles either show

that you're nasty, cranky and senile,

or that you're always smiling."

~Carlos Santana

"Successful people are always looking

for opportunities to help others.

Unsuccessful people are always asking,

'What's in it for me?'"

~Brian Tracy

Mountain tops are for views and inspiration.

But fruit is grown in the valleys.

BIG BOOK QUOTE

But the more we fought and tried to have our own way, the worse matters got. As in war, the victor only seemed to win. Our moments of triumph were short-lived.

Celebrate Your Anniversary Here

SHOW NEWCOMERS HOW IT WORKS!!

Send your sober date and location to :

so...@yourdailyreprieve.com

I always thought that posting our locations with our anniversaries was a great way to show newcomers that AA is all over the world. So I wish you would send your locations with your anniversary dates. We don't celebrate for our own benefit.

We celebrate anniversaries to show the program works.

If we add our locations we get to show

that AA works EVERYWHERE!

Tradition Nine - "A.A., as such, ought never be organized; but we may create service boards or committees directly responsible to those they serve."

A.A. has to function, but at the same time it must avoid those dangers of great wealth, prestige, and entrenched power which necessarily tempt other societies. Though Tradition Nine at first sight seems to deal with a purely practical matter, in its actual operation it discloses a society without organization, animated only by the spirit of service--a true fellowship.

TWENTY-FOUR HOURS

A.A. Thought For The Day

You get the power to overcome drinking through the

fellowship of other alcoholics who have found the way

out. You get power by honestly sharing your past

experience by a personal witness. You get power by

coming to believe in a Higher Power, the Divine Principle

in the universe which can help you. You get power by

working with other alcoholics. In these four ways,

thousands of alcoholics have found all the power they

needed to overcome drinking. Am I ready and willing to

accept this power and work for it?

Meditation For The Day

The power of God's spirit is the greatest power in the

universe. Our conquest of each other, the great kings

and conquerors, the conquest of wealth, the leaders of

the money society, all amount to very little in the end.

But one that conquers oneself is greater than one who

conquers a city. Material things have no permanence. But

God's spirit is eternal. Everything really worth while

in the world is the result of the power of God's spirit.

Prayer For The Day

I pray that I may open myself to the power of God's spirit.

I pray that my relationships with others may be improved

by this spirit.

Letting Go

Letting go of everything at once was both painful and terrifying. I could never have accomplished this alone. It took the help, understanding and wonderful companionship that was given so freely to me by my ex-alkie friends. This and the program of recovery embodied in the Twelve Steps. In learning to practice these steps in my daily living, I began to acquire faith and a philosophy to live by. Whole new vistas were opened up for me, new avenues of experience to be explored, and life began to take on color and interest.

DAILY REFLECTION

A.A.'s FREEDOMS

We trust that we already know what our several freedoms

truly are; that no future generation of AAs will ever feel

compelled to limit them. Our AA freedoms create the soil in

which genuine love can grow. . . .

LANGUAGE OF THE HEART, p. 303

I craved freedom. First, freedom to drink; later, freedom

from drink. The A.A. program of recovery rests on a

foundation of free choice. There are no mandates, laws or

commandments. A.A.'s spiritual program, as outlined in the

Twelve Steps, and by which I am offered even greater

freedoms, is only suggested. I can take it or leave it.

Sponsorship is offered, not forced, and I come and go as I

will. It is these and other freedoms that allow me to recapture

the dignity that was crushed by the burden of drink,

and which is so dearly needed to support an enduring

sobriety.

POT LUCK

Listen and learn":

It's a slogan that becomes more useful the more we use it.

It's not easy to admit that we don't listen well. We may appear to be listening when we're deep in conversation, but how much do we really hear? There is a big difference between listening and hearing.

From Twelve Step meetings and the sponsors and friends we acquire here, we have many opportunities to get the help we need, but we have to be willing first to listen and then to really hear what they tell us. Learning comes from hearing.

What is it that we need to hear at these meetings? We need to hear that it's possible to go on with our lives and be happy, even if the addict is still using. We need to hear that it's possible to let go of trying to control other people and live our lives only. We need to hear how others have done an inventory and have begun to look honestly at themselves instead of others for a change. And we need to hear of the relief that comes with forgiveness. Over time we'll learn many more things. This is only a beginning, but it's a good place to start.

I know others will be sharing messages I need to hear today. God, help me be willing to listen, hear, and learn.
