"Dare to reach out your hand into the darkness,

to pull another hand into the light."

~Norm Rice

“Today’s sobriety cannot be chugalugged ...

It has to be sipped, one taste at a time,

so that each drop of serenity can be fully savored.”

~North Hollywood, California, August 1982

Begin doing what you want to do now.

We are not living in eternity.

We have only this moment,

sparkling like a star in our hand—

and melting like a snowflake."

~ Francis Bacon

Lose all your concepts about

religion and spirituality and love.

Be simple, be humble, and be happy in your way;

let no one tell you that this is the right way

and that is the wrong way.

However you feel

—whatever brings you peace and joy—

is the correct way for you.

Continue in that way and you’ll see

the bliss get stronger.

You’ll see the peace get stronger.

It is very simple.

BIG BOOK QUOTE

I was not too well at the time, and was plagued by waves of self-pity and resentment. This sometimes nearly drove me back to drink, but I soon found that when all other measures failed, work with another alcoholic would save the day.

SHOW NEWCOMERS HOW IT WORKS!!

Send your sober date and location to :

I always thought that posting our locations with our anniversaries was a great way to show newcomers that AA is all over the world. So I wish you would send your locations with your anniversary dates. We don't celebrate for our own benefit.

We celebrate anniversaries to show the program works.

If we add our locations we get to show

that AA works EVERYWHERE!

Tradition Three - "The only requirement for A.A. membership is a desire to stop drinking."

To establish this principle of membership took years of harrowing experience. In our early time, nothing seemed so fragile, so easily breakable as an A.A. group. Hardly an alcoholic we approached paid any attention; most of those who did join us were like flickering candles in a windstorm. Time after time, their uncertain flames blew out and couldn't be relighted. Our unspoken, constant thought was "Which of us may be the next?"

p. 139

TWENTY-FOUR HOURS

A.A. Thought For The Day

When I came into A.A., I learned what an alcoholic was and then I applied this knowledge to myself to see if I was an alcoholic. When I was convinced that I was an alcoholic, I admitted it openly. Since then, have I been learning to live accordingly? Have I read the book Alcoholics Anonymous? Have I applied the knowledge gained to myself? Have I admitted openly that I am an alcoholic? Am I ready to

admit it at any time when I can be of help?

Meditation For The Day

I will be renewed. I will be remade. In this, I need God's help. His spirit shall flow through me and, in flowing through me, it shall sweep away all the bitter past. I will take heart. The way will open for me. Each day will unfold something good, as long as I am trying to live the way I believe God wants me to live.

Prayer For The Day

I pray that I may be taught, just as a child would be taught. I pray that I may never question God's plans, but accept them gladly.

Principles

"Experience shows that few alcoholics will long stay away from a group just because they don't like the way it is run. Most return and adjust themselves to whatever conditions they must. Some go to a different group, or form a new one. In other words, once an alcoholic fully realizes that he cannot get well alone, he will somehow find a way to get well and stay well in the company of others."

Bill W., Letter, 1943

c.1967 AAWS, As Bill Sees It, p. 312

DAILY REFLECTION

POWERLESS

We admitted we were powerless over alcohol—that our

lives had become unmanageable.

TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, p. 21

It is no coincidence that the very first Step mentions

powerlessness: An admission of personal powerlessness

over alcohol is a cornerstone of the foundation of recovery.

I've learned that I do not have the power and control I once

thought I had. I am powerless over what people think about

me. I am powerless over having just missed the bus. I am

powerless over how other people work (or don't work) the

Steps. But I've also learned I am not powerless over some

things. I am not powerless over my attitudes. I am not

powerless over negativity. I am not powerless over

assuming responsibility for my own recovery. I have the

power to exert a positive influence on myself, my loved

ones, and the world in which I live.

Reflection For The Day

Now that we’re sober and living in reality, it’s sometimes difficult to see ourselves as others see us and, in the process, determine how much progress we’ve made in recovery. In the old days, the back-of-the-bar mirror presented us with a distorted and illusory view of ourselves; the way we imagined ourselves to be and the way we imagined ourselves to appear in the eyes of others.

A good way for me to measure my progress today is simply to look about me at my friends in The Program. As I witness the miracle of their recoveries, I realize that I’m part of the same miracle — and will remain so as long as I’m willing.

Am I grateful for reality and the Divine miracle of my recovery?

Today I Pray

May God keep my eyes open for miracles — those marvelous changes that have taken place in my own life and in the lives of my friends in the group. May I ask no other measurement of progress than a smile I can honestly mean and a clear eye and a mind that can, at last, touch reality. May my own joy be my answer to my question. “How am I doing?”

Today I Will Remember

Miracles measure our progress: Who needs more?
