Every day we have opportunities to reconnect with God

through an encounter with nature, whether an ordinary sunrise,

a starling on a power line, a tree in a park,

or a cloud in the sky.

This spirituality doesn’t depend on education or belief.

It almost entirely depends on our capacity for simple presence.

—Richard Rohr

BIG BOOK QUOTE

Being all powerful, He provided what we needed, if we kept close to Him and performed His work well. Established on such a footing we became less and less interested in ourselves, our little plans and designs. More and more we became interested in seeing what we could contribute to life.

I always thought that posting our locations with our anniversaries was a great way to show newcomers that AA is all over the world. So I wish you would send your locations with your anniversary dates. We don't celebrate for our own benefit.

We celebrate anniversaries to show the program works.

If we add our locations we get to show

that AA works EVERYWHERE!

Foreword

With the publication of the book "Alcoholics Anonymous" in 1939, the pioneering period ended and a prodigious chain reaction set in as the recovered alcoholics carried their message to still others. In the next years alcoholics flocked to A.A. by tens of thousands, largely as the result of excellent and continuous publicity freely given by magazines and newspapers throughout the world. Clergymen and doctors alike rallied to the new movement, giving it unstinted support and endorsement.

TWENTY-FOUR HOURS

 A.A. Thought For The Day

When I was drinking, I always tried to build myself up. I used to tell tall

stories about myself. I told them so often that I half believe some of them

now, even though I know they aren't true. I used to hang around the

lowbrow barrooms so I could feel superior to the other customers. The

reason I always tried to build myself up was that I knew deep down

in my heart that I really didn't amount to anything. It was a kind of

defense against my feeling of inferiority. Do I still build myself up?

Meditation For The Day

God thought about the universe and brought it into being. His thought

brought me into being. I must think God's thought after Him. I must

often keep my mind occupied with thoughts about God and meditate on

the way He wants me to live. I must train my mind constantly in quiet

times of communion with God. It is the work of a lifetime to develop to

full stature spiritually. This is what I am on earth for. it gives meaning to

my life.

Prayer For The Day

I pray that I may think God's thoughts after Him. I pray that I may live

as He wants me to live.

Faith

People of faith have a logical idea of what life is all about. Actually, we used to have no reasonable conception whatever. We used to amuse ourselves by cynically dissecting spiritual beliefs and practices when we might have observed that many spiritually-minded persons of all races, colors and creeds were demonstrating a degree of stability, happiness and usefulness which we should have sought ourselves.

Thought to Consider . . .

DAILY REFLECTION

"ENTIRELY HONEST"

We must be entirely honest with somebody if we expect to

live long or happily in this world.

ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, p. 73-74

Honesty, like all virtues, is to be shared. It began after I

shared ". . . [my] whole life's story with someone . . . "

in order to find my place in the Fellowship. Later I shared

my life in order to help the newcomer find his place with

us. This sharing helps me to learn honesty in all my

dealings and to know that God's plan for me comes true

through honest openness and willingness.

POT LUCK

"When you get to your wit’s end, you’ll find that God lives there."

In the past, whenever I got to a bottom, I just moved over and started digging another hole. I would leave jobs, relationships, and even states looking for a different solution. I didn’t have a God in my life, so there was no turning it over. It wasn’t until I had broken my shovel and hit my final bottom that I was ready to admit complete defeat.

When I came into the rooms, I heard a lot about God. I didn’t like it. I had given up on Him a long time ago, and I was sure He had deserted me. What I came to find out was that God was always there to help me when I hit bottom. What I also learned, years later, was that He was there for me all along. I just had to ask for help sooner.

What I now know is that I don’t have to wait until I’m at my wit’s end to reach out and get help from God. He lives in me and is with me every step of the way. The key that opens the lock is and always has been willingness. And today, I’m much more willing to be willing. Today, I know I don’t have to reach my wit’s end to find out where God lives. I just have to ask for help.
