Morning by morning, new mercies I see.

~Thomas O. Chisholm

Patience and tenacity of purpose are assets

of infinitely greater value than cleverness.

There is great strength in patiently waiting.

The sun, having set, comes up.

The tide ebbs, but always flows in again.

-Fred van Amburgh

"The soul always knows what to do to heal itself.

The challenge is to silence the mind."

~Caroline Myss

“As long as I am willing to do what I am called to do

in any given moment and to abandon the effort

to control the results of my actions,

then I am following the path that my Higher Power

– call it God, Good Orderly Direction,

the soul, the life force, or anything else –

 has set out for me.”

~ Thompson, Pennsylvania, March 1997

I always thought that posting our locations with our anniversaries was a great way to show newcomers that AA is all over the world. So I wish you would send your locations with your anniversary dates. We don't celebrate for our own benefit.

We celebrate anniversaries to show the program works.

If we add our locations we get to show

that AA works EVERYWHERE!

Tradition Twelve - "Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our traditions, ever reminding us to place principles before personalities."

As this tide offering top public approval swept in, we realized that it could do us incalculable good or great harm. Everything would depend upon how it was channeled. We simply couldn't afford to take the chance of letting self-appointed members present themselves as messiahs representing A.A. before the whole public. The promoter instinct in us might be our undoing. If even one publicly got drunk, or was lured into using A.A.'s name for his own purposes, the damage might be irreparable. At this altitude (press, radio, films, and television), anonymity--100 percent anonymity--was the only possible answer. Here, principles would have to come before personalities, without exception.

TWENTY-FOUR HOURS

 A.A. Thought For The Day

After we've been in A.A. for a while, we find out that if

we're going to stay sober, we have to be humble people. The

men and women in A.A. who have achieved sobriety are all

humble people. When I stop to think that but for the grace

of God I might be drunk right now, I can't help feeling

humble. Gratitude to God for His grace makes me humble. When

I think of the kind of person I was not so long ago, when I

think of the person I left behind me, I have nothing to be

proud of. Am I grateful and humble?

Meditation For The Day

I must arise from the death of sin and selfishness and put

on a new life of integrity. All the old sins and temptations

must be laid in the grave and a new existence rise from the

ashes. Yesterday is gone. All my sins are forgiven if I am

honestly trying to do God's will today. Today is here, the

time of resurrection and renewal. I must start now, today,

to build a new life of complete faith and trust in God and

a determination to do His will in all things.

Prayer For The Day

I pray that I may share in making the world a better place

to live in. I pray that I may do what I can to bring

goodness a little nearer to the earth.

Coping

God willing, we members of A.A. may never again have to deal with drinking, but we have to deal with sobriety every day. How do we do it? By learning - through practicing the Twelve Steps and through sharing at meetings - how to cope with the problems that we looked to booze to solve, back in our drinking days . . . We learn how to level out the emotional swings that got us into trouble both when we were up and when we were down.

DAILY REFLECTION

CULTIVATING FAITH

"I don't think we can do anything very well in this world

unless we practice it And I don't believe we do A.A. too well

unless we practice it. . . . We should practice . . . acquiring

the spirit of service. We should attempt to acquire some faith,

which isn't easily done, especially for the person who has

always been very materialistic, following the standards of

society today. But I think faith can be acquired; it can be

acquired slowly; it has to be cultivated. That was not easy

for me, and I assume that it is difficult for everyone else.

. . . "

DR. BOB AND THE GOOD OLDTIMERS, pp. 307-08

Fear is often the force that prevents me from acquiring and

cultivating the power of faith. Fear blocks my appreciation

of beauty, tolerance, forgiveness, service, and serenity.

POT LUCK

  Keep It Simple

God loves the world through us.  --- Mother Teresa

In Step Three, we turn our will and our lives over to the care of God. How do we feel God's care, God's love? We feel God's care and love through how people treat us. Our Higher Power works through people who love us back to life. With time, we begin returning this care and love to others. We feel this warm love flow right through us and out to others. We're kind without trying to be. We smile at others for no reason. We comfort those who hurt just by holding them.

Prayer for the Day: Higher Power, use me to make Your love real to someone today.

Action for the Day: Fear sometimes keeps me from loving. I'll list three things I'm afraid will happen if I'm "to loving." I'll share these fears with my sponsor.
