Burdens are for shoulders, strong enough to carry them.

~Margaret Mitchell

Always remember,

we all have our own opinions and beliefs.

We have different ways of dealing

with life's troubles and joys.

 To survive our differences

without hurting each other

is what Goodness is all about.

~Dodinsky

“In the time we have

it is surely our duty

to do all the good we can

to all the people we can

in all the ways we can. ”

~William Barclay

Prayer can be an easy substitute for real spirituality.

It would be impossible to have spirituality

without prayer, of course,

but it is certainly possible to pray

without having any spirituality at all.

How do you know? “Am I becoming kinder?”

is a good place to start.

BIG BOOK QUOTE

We, in our turn, sought the same escape with all the desperation of drowning men. What seemed at first a flimsy reed, has proved to be the loving and powerful hand of God. A new life has been given us or, if you prefer, "a design for living" that really works.

I always thought that posting our locations with our anniversaries was a great way to show newcomers that AA is all over the world. So I wish you would send your locations with your anniversary dates. We don't celebrate for our own benefit.

We celebrate anniversaries to show the program works.

If we add our locations we get to show

that AA works EVERYWHERE!

Foreword

Everywhere there arose threatening questions of membership, money, personal relations, public relations, management of groups, clubs, and scores of other perplexities. It was out of this vast welter of explosive experience that A.A.'s Twelve Traditions took form and were first published in 1946 and later confirmed at A.A.'s First International Convention, held at Cleveland in 1950. The Tradition section of this volume portrays in some detail the experience which finally produced the Twelve Traditions and so gave A.A. its present form, substance, and unity.

TWENTY-FOUR HOURS

 A.A. Thought For The Day

We're in A.A. for two main reasons: to keep sober ourselves

and to help others to keep sober. It's a well known fact

that helping others is a big part of keeping sober yourself.

It's also been proved that it's very hard to keep sober all

by yourself. A lot of people have tried it and failed. They

come to a few A.A. meetings and then stay sober alone for a

few months, but usually they eventually get drunk. Do I know

that I can't stay sober successfully alone?

Meditation For The Day

Look by faith into that place beyond space or time where God

dwells and whence you came and to which you shall eventually

return. "Look unto Him and be saved." To look beyond material

things is within the power of everyone's imagination. Faith's

look saves you from despair. Faith's look saves you from worry

and care. Faith's look brings a peace beyond all understanding.

Faith's look brings you all the strength you need. Faith's look

gives you a new and vital power and a wonderful peace and

serenity.

Prayer For The Day

I pray that I may have faith's look. I pray that by faith I

may look beyond the now to eternal life.

Control

At a certain point in the drinking of every alcoholic, he passes into a state where the most powerful desire to stop drinking is of absolutely no avail. This tragic situation has already arrived in practically every case long before it is suspected.

c. 2001 AAWS, Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 24

Thought to Consider . . .

When a person tries to control their drinking they have already lost control.

DAILY REFLECTION

FREEDOM TO BE ME

If we are painstaking about this phase of our development,

we will be amazed before we are half way through. We are

going to know a new freedom and a new happiness

ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, p. 83

My first true freedom is the freedom not to have to take a

drink today. If I truly want it, I will work the Twelve Steps

and the happiness of this freedom will come to me through

the Steps—sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly. Other

freedoms will follow, and inventorying them is a new

happiness. I had a new freedom today, the freedom to be

me. I have the freedom to be the best me I have ever been.

POT LUCK

Walk In Dry Places

Be still, for a while, anyhow

God’s will for us.

The bible reminds us: “Be still, and know that I am God.” What does this say to the recovering alcoholic who is struggling against a tidal wave of problems?

It must be a reminder that our true place and right work is part of a great purpose, though we may still not know where we fit into the larger plan. We can know, however, that God’s plan will include peaceful actions, just and moral solutions, and results that are wholly beneficial to all concerned.

One does not have to be a theologian to decide that staying sober is part of God’s will for us. That’s why we can expect the support of Higher Power at all times, even when we feel fearful and abused.

Aside from staying sober, each of us will have individual work and responsibilities in life. We should be careful not to measure anyone’s success– including our own– against worldly standards. If God is in charge, wherever we are and whatever we happen to be doing can a part of the divine will.

In keeping sober today, I’ll know that I’m carrying out God’s will. I’ll also be open to unexpected opportunities to carry out God’s directions.
