Anyone using the new search engine (IDOL) in 6.1? There is such a tiny
amount of documentation about it on the Zantaz site; it seems quite
odd. We'd love to see any numbers comparing the old AV & the new IDOL
search.

Any gotchas/comments ?

Have you taken the Zantaz 6.1 training? It is covered in that course.

From what I know, both search engines are currently supported, but
that Altavista will eventually go away.

That much I knew, and Thanks. I was hoping for some reports of real
world performance, and opinions/experiences from real world use.

Doesn't that 4 hour Webex "training" seem AWFULLY highly priced???

Russ, I don't think anyone is actually using the IDOL integration as yet, I might be wrong though.

Hello All,

I have it in my demo environment and running for one customer already.

It kicks AltaVista’s butt - but it is a bitch to get up and running.

Yes - I agree that the upgrade training is pricey.

So please tell us where the documents for IDOL installation deviate
from reality

I have a tendency to erase traumatic experiences from my memory.

The way I got it working was a combo of EAS Support / Autonomy Support and
whatever documents were around.

One critical part was the service dependency between the two Idol Services.
The one responsible for the license management must be a dependency of the
other. I can't remember exactly, but that was critical.

I didn't take the upgrade training yet - how many of you out there have?

Hello Allan,

I took the upgrade training in November. I thought it was worthwhile
as a refresher - I do not upgrade or otherwise change the
configuration of my EAS server often, so it is good to get the latest
information.

Most useful to me are the comments made "around" the slides - the
undocumented workarounds that are (or are no longer) required to make
things work.

My one gripe is that, because I was last certified for 4.3, they made
me take the 5.0 before I could take the 6.1 course. It was largely
the same material two days in a row. I had already upgraded to 6.0 by
the time I took the course, so the 5.0 training felt a bit like a
waste of time.
