Dear Comrades,

I propose the following;

1. A meeting facillitated by the resource and Mobilisation committee of the SASFROC
2. A meeting with Supporters, funders and well-wishers of the forum.(As agreed by the last SASFROC meeting in Lusaka)

3. An extended concept paper for regional management and organisation of the SASF projecting a 10 year period, with detailed projections by the content and mobilisation committee.

Warmest Regards,

Kiss

But for the sake of Comrade Kiss, there is nothing knew from your mail, we had actually anticipated this emerging issues years back but some comrades decided not to act.

Chief,

Okay comrade, its noted but still I dont agree with you comrade. SASF gave full responsibility to ZAMSOF as current SASF Chair to organize and mobilize what ever is needed to ensure participation / visibility of the region in the WSF. Not just to sing only but to flag our our struggles in the region such as land access or ownership, water, human rights abuse, climate change, poverty, lack of democracy you name them, as discussed in our previous Southern Africa Social Forums more especially the last one which took place in Lesotho Maseru. Not forgeting other topics of regional importance like the dialogues is search for alternatives.

As I see it now this is hiting back and or exposing ZAMSOF for having not solicited funding for regional movement which includes among other things culture and the First Nation's participation.
However, talking time is over as there is no time left. We will hear from you comrades on any developments regarding WSF preps.

Dear Comrades.

I'm quite worried at this conversation because it exposes our main weakness of lack of resources. I think this situation is artificial, because there are resources out there, we just take too long to plan to access them. We know that this year we have SASF in Lusaka and we know that next year and the year after that we will need resources for participation in one WSF activity or the other but we are going to wait until the last minute to repeat this conversation.

Refer to the list by clicking on the link and observe the pattern.

With regards to this 'new' money from Taoufik, the debate is unnecessary. If you look at the genesis of how this money came to be offered by Taoufik, you will see that he reacted to a proposal from a group of artists who wanted to participate at the event. As far as tradition is concerned, yes, they have funded grassroots movements for a while but this is new. Culture and the arts from Southern Africa is not so visible even when the event comes down South. I see this as an opportunity to strengthen regional solidarity around a common thematic group which comprises artistic activists and members of organisations and social movements. They will form a new thematic group that will last a long time and it will show the power of linkages and collaboration that the WSF can facillitate. Am proud that Southern Africa is a source of stimulus for this sort of creativity.

The WSF is no longer limited to the people lucky enough to travel, we have the extended sessions now and these are a new avenue that we can use. So travelling is no longer as much of an issue as it used to be, please refer to SASF website; http://southernafricasocialforum.wordpress.com/. We observe here; http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/12278610 people from peri-urban communities participating in a social forum space and sharing their vision for a world they want to see with the world. Already content of our stories is absent in cyber space and this content can begin to contribute to filling this void.

Taoufik's intervention must not be politicised nor should his interventions continue to disrupt our trends of thought. I don't believe that this would be his intention.

Regards,

Kiss

Comrades,

Thank you very much comrades over there in Zambia for requesting for that solidarity support from the ASF as well as keeping us updated on what is going on. However, with regards to what we are calling "SASF BAND", when going through Taufik's response to comrades Sara's mail requesting for a solidarity support for the cultural group. Taufik said that they have money to support people from the South as they have been doing in the previous years NOT only for artists but PEOPLE from the different movements in the Southern Africa Sub-region. The region cannot only be reduced only to participate in culture but in all the other commissions in the WSF, which is where we need to make our visibility too. It must be clear therefore that Tau's money is not only for culture but to support the region in sending people up there which may include a cultural group if possible. I will therefore suggest in the interests of time that hence some calculations have been done so as to how many people would Tau's money cater for in terms of accommodation, food, transport etc, Coordinators in the regions should through consultation with their social movements in their different countries forward names of those people to ZAMSOF as soon as possible. It is becoming late and if funds are not transferred from Taufik by now I will also suggest that ZAMSOF request enda to buy those tickets for those comrades as well as looking for accommodation for them. The issue of visas is also urgent hence those people who are to be forwarded are to prepare themselves in time even though its getting late.

We have seen the distribution here in Swaziland and we don't have any problem with the distribution besides that it is also very important to have comrades from Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo, Namibia and Mauritius.

As for the issue of a band I think it would not work to bring different people from all over but to have one group perhaps Chamanyanzi even though I think its important we know its a group consisting of how many artists. At least that's a group we know and have been with the movements in almost all our forums in the South. But if its a large group the fact is that its not possible to take it up there as I have said that the struggle of social movements in the South can not only reduced to a cultural activity only.

Look at the time it will be painful not to be able to spend the support from Taufik because it would have arrived late which is why I have suggested engaging enda in purchasing the air tickets and looking for accommodation for the group from the South after the region has forwarded the names to ZAMSOF which I would suggest is before or on Monday if it could be earlier it would be perfect as people have got to get moving as from Friday to Dakar. Application for visas need to also be taken into consideration.

Thank you comrades,

Dumezweni

Dear comrades

Hope this mail finds you all in good health.

We write to inform everybody in the region, particularly  the artists on how we feel we should realise the dream of the SASF band being the people that concieved the idea. We suggest that we have 3 Artists from (each country) Malawi, and Zimbabwe, while Zambia sends 4 musicians and the rest of the countries send 2 artist each. we propose that the countries with more artists (Zambia,Malawi and Zimbabwe) should provide musicians who are going to constitute the backing band which is going to rehease in lusaka two days before depature. We think that it is easier for the three countries to get together for this, further, we feel that it would be cheaper if these artists leave for Dakar from Lusaka; and it would be easier for Zimbabwe comrades to get their Visas from Zambia.

We also suggest  that among the 3 musicians from the countries that are going to send the extra artists, there should be the following:

                                                                                                                            -Zambia....................a guitarist and drummer
                                                                                                                            -Zimbabwe...............a bass player
                                                                                                                            -Malawi ...................a keyboard player

We further surggest that we either compose or adopt a popular rythem from within Southern Africa that we will perform as a SASF song apart from performing our personal solidarity songs and that each artist that is coming to the SASF Band sends us a copy of there music maximum 2 songs each country, for the backing band to rehearse.

The budget estimate is as follows:

AIR TICKETS - RETURN
Country                                        Number of Artist                                         Unit cost $                                                    total $

Dear mature comrades,

Please let's 'hold our horses' for now! This is no place or time to talk about projections, let's leave it to our next SASFROC meeting to be held in Lusaka after Dakar-WSF. Let's now concentrate on our feasible activities in Dakar-WSF, 6-11 February, this year!!!

To continue with the SASFROC facilitation task at hand and since I'll be in Dakar from 3rd February I need information to share at ASF Council meeting on 4-5th February on the  following:
  1. Who are going to Dakar from each country from SASF constituency (even those not linked to SASF process as long as you know they will be delegates from your country?
  2. What activities has your organization registered?
  3. Where will you be staying in Dakar (I'll be at Hotel Ganale)
Please ignore this request if you have already shared the information with ZAMSOF Secretariat in Lusaka.

Power to solidarity in the making of "another world is possible"!
