UN Women Africa Division Chief, Ms. Letty Chiwara has kindly requested FEMNET to share with you the following information:
1. In an effort to ensure broad consultation with a broad range of stakeholders, UN Women Sub-Regional Offices and the Liaison Office in Addis Ababa have been holding national and sub-regional consultations to seek inputs in the UN Women Strategic Plan. The attached table shows the schedule and contact person for each Sub-Region.
2. The Consultations are supposed to go on up to the 18th of March – and while tentative dates were given in this table, some of the Consultations are taking place during the week of 14 – 18 March. All organizations and individuals who would like to contribute to this process should contact the respective UN Women Regional Programme Director in your respective Sub-Region.
3. UN Women had originally planned a Regional Consultation to take place in Ghana during the last week of March – but due to the tight time-line for finalizing the consultations this meeting has been cancelled.
4. In order to provide an opportunity for CSOs to provide inputs into the Strategic Plan – UN Women will be posting on its website the DRAFT Plan for comments and inputs. As soon as this is done – you will be notified through this email contact list.
5. UN Women Africa Division is now planning to hold a Regional Strategic Planning Workshop – hopefully still in Ghana as had been originally planned – after the Strategic Plan has been approved (it is expected that the Plan will be approved during the UN Women Executive Board in June 2011). The exact dates and details for this meeting will be provided at a later date.
