Let us mobilise comrades and get to the Cathedral... We cannot sit and watch our country getting messed up. We have the chance to refuse and salvage what belongs to all of us.

Dear All,

Support and rescue the constitution today.

CSCC (Civil Society Constitution Coalition)

Civil society gathers to rescue the constitution

WHAT: People will gather to call on President Sata to release the final draft of the constitution to the people without further delay and provide a clear roadmap for the remainder of the constitution making process.

The programme includes cheers and chants, prayers and singing of the national anthem, as well as key note speeches by and solidarity messages from political parties, CSOs, youth organisations, persons with disabilities, student movements and church mother bodies.

Representatives of these groups will also be available for interview following the gathering, which is scheduled to end by 16.00.

WHEN/ WHERE: 12.00 (for 13.30 start), Saturday 4 January 2014, Cathedral of the Holy Cross, Cathedral Hill, Lusaka.

WHY: The technical committee has been compelled to to only print ten copies of the constitution to be exclusively handed over to President Sata.  This is a clear deviation from the Terms of Reference that were developed by the State itself, which state that the document was to be presented simultaneously to the Head of State and the general public. ,

CSCC SIGNATORIES: ActionAid Zambia; African Women Millennium Initiative in Zambia (AWOMIZ); Anti-Voter Apathy (AVAP); Church of God; Citizen’s Forum; Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR); Hope for Human Rights; Infotainment Movement; Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR); Save the Children; Southern African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD); Transparency International Zambia (TIZ); Treatment Advocacy and Literacy Campaign (TALC); The People’s Indaba; Women and Law in Southern Africa (WLSA); Women in Law and Development in Africa (WiLDAF); Zambia AIDSLaw Research and Advocacy Network (ZARAN); Zambia Civic Education Association (ZCEA); Zambia Community based Natural Resources Management Forum; Zambia Land Alliance (ZLA); Zambian Union of Financial Institutions and Allied Workers (ZUFIAW/FFTUZ); Zambia Women Media Association (ZAMWA).

Dear Brenda

Thank you for the email. I have just seen it today, but we managed to attend the historic prayer meeting as NGOCC also sent an invitation to us. Please note that the Zambia National Women’s Lobby is committed and let us know of any future related meetings on the Constitution. This is a very important national issue that we all need to unite and fight together for a Constitution that will stand a test of time.

Kind Regards
