For all those who missed the 8 June 2004 Venus Transit. Here is the final call to witness the last venus transit of our life time. Mark your diary on 6th June 2012. Get up early and see the black dot of Venus moving slowly across the Sun. The next such transit will be in 2117 ! Miss it now...and you will miss it forever.

The Venus transit will start at 03:40 am IST. The sun will not be in the sky for us at that time. For us the Sun rise on 6th June 2012 is at 06:01 am. By then the planet Venus will be halfway through its path on the solar disc. The Greatest transit is at 07:01 am. The greatest transit is the time at which the distance between the center of Venus and Sun is minimum. There after the Venus will keep moving on its path for around 3 hrs. At 10:02 am the Venus will start its outward motion from the solar disc and at 10:19 it will be completely out thusending the spectacular event.

First Contact: 0340 am      Second Contact: 03:57 am

Greatest Transit: 07:01 am

Third Contact: 10:02 am    Fourth Contact: 10:19 am

To watch this event get up early and try to catch the sun at sunrise. DONOT use binocular, telescope, lens to see the sun disc directly. This will burn out the eye immediately. For such devices special Solar Filter ( not sun goggle !) is available. One should use such filter only.

Never use CD, DVD, Floppy disc, X-ray film, Photo film, darkened glass and similar things to watch the sun. These devices do reduce the visible intensity of the sun and we can see "cool sun". But these things DO NOT block the invisible and harmful Infrared and Ultraviolet radiations from the sun. These invisible rays can also damage the eye and eye sight can be lost. So take adequate care when seeing the sun. For unaided eye use Solar Goggles only.

How the transit is visible is shown in the figure attached. A photograph takenof the earlier transit of 2004 is also shown to get an idea what to expect.Khagol Mandal and other science groups have arranged Telescope with filters to see the event at various places. Please check the list and go to any location you wish and have a glimpse at the Transit.
